The secret location of the TV series 'Scrapheap Challenge' is out of the bag,it can now be revealed that the series is filmed on a military Army establishment at Bramley in Hampshire.
Avid junksters will spot the remains of an ex Army air corps Scout helicopter and a garish Cessna 150 sitting on top of some scrap metal.
I just love the confidence these contestants have in welding wheel centres onto more wheels which are then bolted to the chassis of a vehicle ! nine times out of ten the welds break away !
What must have been the shortest ever American experimental category certificate of airworthiness, were issued to two scrapheap challenge flying machines made for the last series, the certificates were issued for a 4 hour only period, sufficent to get them flying, one of which did very well.
I think that model builders would fare well in this challenge given the ingenuity required to get things working.
Remember the two radio controlled aeroplanes made as well ? they flew these over a quarry in Bedfordshire and one crashed very heavily.
Dont you just love the characters in this series !
