CD? Do you know how hard it is to buy a computer with an Optic drive (CD in geek). You can get external/portable ones but then your just going to loose the cable at some point.

And that, ladies and gentleman, is why my PC is Desktop format. You can add internally fitted peripherals really easily, and use a decent keyboard and mouse to boot. Never could get on with a laptop, it’s neither fish nor fowl. Ergonomically very bad for you as well because the screen is always at the wrong height. For portable casual browsing a tablet is far more useful, and serious PC work needs a desk mounted unit with a large screen at eye level.

Me too , but I can't pretend to have made that decision on such well- informed parameters- it's what I had first and I just prefer it!

Same here Tim. My external drives include a Zip drive, and a floppy...
I've just had some old 8mm cine film scanned, and they would have charged extra to put the scans on a DVD instead of a USB stick.

All I use is ‘the cloud’ + thumb drives to keep important files and a 2 Tb external ssd for regular back-ups.
Have a box in the loft with Zip drives, optical drives, several slow 2.5 inch hd’s, never had the compulsion to resurrect any of them.
The only problem I have is in the form of a wife who swipes away with her digits at gawd knows what or why! Hence my frequent backups!!!

To be honest, it was what I got used to. Then work swapped to laptops, and I found them very difficult to get along with. Work had to use docking stations, independent keyboards and mice, and stand alone screens to meet digital workstation regulations. We were also so tightly tied down with antivirus protection that they were impossible to use at home because you couldn’t log on to a network. I think the Dell salesman made a fortune in commission that day…..and I’ve avoided them like the plague ever since.

My company swapped to laptops because some idiot in HR thought it was more friendly to the environment. The number of employees with upper limb disorders increased significantly. I was one, and was permitted an external monitor and keyboard on medical grounds. Couldn't have a docking station though, so logging on involved connecting the monitor and keyboard to the laptop. Funny, because a previous version of the policy dictated that laptops were not allowed because they were a security risk!

Ze offices, canteen area und storeroom are almost complete, und are being equipped mit desks, chairs, cupboards etc as ve speak. Stocks of general supplies, tools und materials are also starting to arrive. Ze machine tools for ze manufacture of ze projectors are being installed zo zat production vill start as soon as ze building vork is complete.

Outside, ve haf completed ze toilet block, protective fences etc for ze generator und gas supply, und ve haf a small hut for ze security guards. Given ze importance of our work, ve haf also started vork on a security fence - vich vill be electrified!
