Now that you will have all the "Free" time in the world, you'll be able to spend a lot more of it at the bench with the end result of more build blogs and completed kits! Good on you Andrea and enjoy your well earned rest! :thumb2:

Congratulations Andrea - my time in the mob earned me an immediate lump sum and a pension from the date of discharge - it seems a little unfair you have to wait after such a length of service. Still, I hope it's worth waiting for!

I really hope so; winter is coming, garden is going to sleep and the new house is almost ready: everything seems to be aligned... finger crossed. As we say "It doesn't matter how early you get up, bad luck is already awake!"

Ok, Neil, I concede: I ended my career as an OF5 (full colonel) in the alpini corps (mountain infantry).

Unfortunately public servants in Italy have to wait at least 15 months before getting their "lump" (probably, and I'm slightly on my nasty side, they hope some of us will kick the bucket in the meantime so that heirs will have to pay the inheritance tax) but pension is paid regularly since the end of active service.

Here's a pic of a younger me while serving as a company CO under the UN flag in Mozambique (oct '93 - mar. '94).

Congratulations on your retirement, Andrea. Also on your dedicated service. I was a government servant also, but took a break in the middle so only had 30 years as an unbroken stretch.
                              John.

I wish you all the best on your retirement. (Even if it is a trap and you end up working harder doing all the things you have managed to swerve around). :smiling2:
Forty years, wowsers, that is quite some time but if you enjoy the work it flies past. Like all service and ex service folk of any nationality, I bet there a few good camp fire stories. I wrote all mine down so that when I get totally ga-ga I'll know what I got up to!!!
All the best, now, boots off, and enjoy the future. You deserve it.
