It was like driving an old tractor. When the Mini died we had to get another car so it was off to evilbay and she spotted it, liked the colour, the price, the interior, the dogs can ride in the back in comfort - I humped and gruffed but was out voted. Sulked all the way to collect it, even cursed the train for not breaking down. Got the thing back home, and as usual put it straight in for a service/MOT - the bloody thing passed, not a thing wrong with it, but that clatter when it was ticking over, even spoke to other people that had them and yes that was normal and how healthy it sounded.....
So I came up with some excuse for it to go, got the Volvo and could not wait to get the curse round to 'we buy any car'..... Now she sits up in the Volvo happy as a pig in s......

First car was a 60 something Mini with the dreaded sub chassis - rust - in trumps!!!! Buddy of mine had a similar aged Mini but in better condition. Had it sprayed Rolls Royce Sable - we reckoned the paint was worth more than the actual car!!! Gotta love a Mini!!
My current Mini is the SUV version. (Countryman). Still great though. No 1 son has had two now!! His latest looks just awesome. Digital dash, without doubt - the best I have seen. Shifts too!!! (Going to laugh though when he has to change the tyres - Ultra low profile!! [he'll be sorryyyyyyy])

Oh, and the guy in Indonesia transporting eight foot lengths of sugar cane sideways on his moped was pretty funny…..:smiling:
Oh god yes, When I used to travel by bus, you could spot them getting on, middle of summer, raincoat, bobble hat and paper carrier bag... I used to spread myself as far across the seat as possible but to no avail, "Good morning, can I sit next to you (sniff)".... And the journey would commence... I even had a bus spotter one day, that was really painfull....

          Waspie,
Years ago my Grenada 2.9 went to the Grenada heaven, so while I was away in Greece, SWMBO bless her heart, bought me a MIni. It was bright Orange, had the sliding door windows, was something like under 1,000cc and an automatic... I used to park it in the corner of the garage and even had Robin Reliants overtaking me....

Sounds like my first Escort!! Horrible thing!!
The war cry in the car when going up hills or trying to overtake, (a rarity), was "Out Oars"!! Just under 1100cc No fuel injection. Awful!!!!

Exactly!!! I have suffered with them. And the thing is you cannot get away from them even when you get off the bus... Felt like taking one home one day and saying "Look what I found today..."

I changed the Beetle I owned from drums to Discs all round included brake master cylinder!! (Never again!!) Mind you at least it stopped the car!! I took the 1100 flat four out and worked my way up to a 1600 flat four!!! Needed better braking after that!!

Can't say as I like the Mini - or any small car for that matter. Had a Clio once and was glad when one of my students ran into it and wrote it off!

I prefer cars that I get in rather than put on - even if they can be tricky to park sometimes.

Don't think you could call the Mini Countryman a 'small' car!!!
