    The Shetlands

I don't know if any of you guys live in the Shetlands, but my wife & I are in mourning as Ann Cleeves has said 'Wild Fire' will be her last Shetland novel. We will so miss the weather, traditions, & colorful characters. We'll have to settle for the TV series I guess.

Not familiar with the author but I have visited the Islands a few times. Loverly place to visit but I have to take my hat off to the residents. I can be a bit wild and bleak at times!!!

Got no time for her 'Vera' novels, but I think her 'Shetland' books are excellent and the TV series with Douglas Henshall was fabulous - not so impressed with the last series without him though.

Never been there, and with no trees 'cos it's too windy for them to grow, it's waaaaayyyyy down on my list of places I might go someday.

Shetland is often described as 'treeless' but this wasn't always the case and, in fact, trees could be set to flourish across the islands once more, as natural history writer and photographer Jon Dunn explains.

Apparently there was a disaster in the Shetlands a few days ago - the wind stopped, and they all fell over!

            I'll get my coat.
