    Weather

I hope our fellow modellers up North are managing to sit out the current weather that's hitting the UK right now. Hatches all battened and managing to keep warm and safe.

You are a few days late in telling us to stay indoors, the worst winds etc here were on the night of the 20th. ( 60mph gusting to a lot more )
Lots of things were dislodged by the high winds.
Tiles ripped off roofs, garden furniture trashed.

Only just getting info re the A9 and such down here.
It's Manchester that's in the news hardly mentioned Scotland!!
I can empathise as Ive had to do rescue work up there when I was based at Prestwick.

A9 was a disaster yesterday, police letting people through flood areas heading North and then waiting to send them back down from many miles North, telling them to use services at a particular place only for people to find it closed and all facilities locked.
People then headed south to try going around via Aberdeen only for that road to be closed too.

I did see many of the routes around Ayrshire had been closed. Have vivid memories of the A9. (early 80's). One of our early jobs was to airlift the snow-plow crews into their depots as the A9 was under several feet of snow. We operated out of Glen More Lodge, Cairngorms, for much of the time. The rest of the time was sadly searching for and collecting bodies off mountain sides. Delivering food to farmers livestock and such.

My pilot friend whose also a modeler and a member of our group managed to land at Heathrow early this morning (at night London time) and mentioned the strong cross winds and the pattern of planes lining up to land, many making a second round. All other airports were also in the same situation and he and the team were deciding if they abort to head for Brussels.
He sent a cockpit video recording of the landing a short and long version. At first he sent the short one saying the plane was calling him a retard again...cool cucumber as at one point the approach was at a 45 degree angle. I'll share the video once I can figure out how to attach it. Anyway another captains wife who was in London earlier took a photo of his plane landing...here it is.

Looks like he may be stuck until the new year.

            Cheers,

When we lived in Scotland we travelled regularly on the A9 - Inverness to Perth and back. It was a 109 miles and in winter could be bad.
I echo Doug's thoughts that everyone is safe and tucked up warm at home after the Christmas travel.
