I never understood why the sword has lasted so long as part of military uniforms - even if it is just ceremonial these days.

Perhaps it's because it represents traditional power in the ultimate expression of archaic hand-held weaponry, military prowess at arms, designation of office and a phallic (penetrative) component (and because it's bright and shiny and looks good against No 1 Dress uniform .... and the ladies are fascinated by it )

Since you’re asking this in response to a set of Japanese figures: because in Japan, swords were (and are) regarded as far more than just weapons. That’s true to a certain extent in Europe as well, but it was far more so in Japan, where a sword wasn’t just a symbol of the nobility (as in Europe) but was held to embody all kinds of spiritual things related to the whole concept of nobility and warrior-ness in ways that go far beyond similar beliefs held in Europe.

250, get ready for 'GRIEF' Rommels mount.
Merkava IV - and still missing the non-slip coating, and I would hate that roof mounted slat armour to give way...

These are amazing little models, I have one in my collection, built and ready to be painted, but each time I back off and just admire Copper States excellence in producing such fine work.

Impressive yes, but difficult to paint to a decent standard I bet. Just too many bits getting in the way.

Not too good, but possibly too few parts. I’m predominantly a painter and I looked at that and thought how the bleep do I paint the tyre under the rear mudguard behind the chain, the drive belt, the rear frame, and the mudguard itself. Something that good deserves a great paint job, but if it doesn’t disassemble into better subunits I don’t see how you could give it the paint job it deserves.

Yeah. We saw some absolutely amazing figures at Hinckley yesterday. Not sure if they were resin or 3D - but whichever they were, they'd be impossible for any normal mortal to paint.
