Its a no contest for me. The 1/24 109 would normally set you back about £50. For value for money alone go for it. I have just built Airfix 1/24 FW190A and have a 1/24 Spit waiting in the wings. They are a great kit to build, only problem is where to put them when there made.
I would go for the bf110 but that is due to two things, the first is I only do aircraft in 1/48, (until the opposite is proven ;-) ) the second is 1/24 scale aircraft take up far to much place.
That 109 is a bargain at the price, but for me just to big. So not that hard a choice for me. Now if they where both in 1/48 scale I would have a problem choosing.
Value for money? The Bf109,but honestly OOB it is a bit light on detail. There's nothing at all wrong with building it that way but you may find yourself wishing you'd done a bit on the interior, wheel wells etc.
You didn't say which Bf110 you are considering.I like the Bf110 it got a bad rap during the BoB and is consequently much overlooked. It was a very successful aircraft, not just in it's "destroyer" role.
Hi there my choice would be the 109 i used to have this kit many moons ago and is a cracker if you want to atempt some super detailing, i love 1/24 aircraft and have four sitting in my shed built..... the downside is they are big and you have to have some room to store them but i love em.
Hi Ole. Having seen what you're capable of doing - and the fun you seem to have - when you decide to add scratchbuilt details (your Lanc and your 'Crash' build), I gotta recommend the 109. It's a nice easy build and gives loads of opportunity to add as much detail as you like. Also, at that price, I think you'd be daft to pass it up. (Only my opinion mind!).
A 1/48 & larger scale are a different kettle of fish to a 1/72.
Started in model making 18 months ago & the first model I bought was a Lysander 1/32. It is still in it's box.
I decided to start as you with a 1/72 model. I soon realised there was a mountain to climb in learning about model making & the amount of expertise in the construction & finishing. I thought it best to get some 1/72 under my belt. They are small & gave me the opportunity to learn a lot quicker than building a larger expensive large scale. There is a quick turn over of all the skills in model making at 1/72. Larger scale takes a lot longer. When I came to build the 1/48 Mosquito I was pleased I had taken that decision. With the expertise I had gained, although limited compared with some here, it made so much difference when I built my first 1/48.
Obviously up to you Scott. But with a 1/72 not so critical if it is not as good as you hoped you can quickly pass to the next 1/72. With a 1.48 or larger going not as you had hoped I would certainly have come very despondent. I did become angry with myself with those early 1/72.
That Revell kit is not the best fitting kit ever made. I finished a half completed one for someone a while ago and had no fun with the engine nacelles and canopy fit. There may have been more that I've forgotten.
