    My lacking of posts

    Evening guys,
I'm not one to bleat on,but I thought it best to explain why I haven't been commenting on the site much recently.
I've been a self employed telemetry engineer for SWW for 22 years now, however, the other Thursday I was on site, doing a job,and got a phone call saying "project is now cancelled, your time is done" !!:anguished:
That was it,no notice,no "thank you" no f**k all!! .... Just,"return your keys asap"!!
.... Dark times indeed,Rach is gutted to say the least, and I must admit that my mojo has vanished pretty much,I'll post up when I can, but at the moment it's not likely to be often.
Sorry, don't mean to moan, but I'm rather gutted.... I mean...
22 YEARS... and NO ACKNOWLEDGEMENT AT ALL !! :astonished:
    ...
    Mr Angry from Devon.

A very sad indictment of the times we now live in pal. Cowardly management that hide behind texts and don't have the face to face skills to do it any other way. Chin up and even though you're from Devon I'm sure there's something out there for you so don't be a stranger.

Sorry to hear that mate i was at a job 10 years ,they wanted to change the way i got paid which meant me losing out. I refused, they made my life difficult till i had no choice but to leave, i was gutted , best thing that ever happened! I now work for a decent firm that really look after me for much better money.
So fingers crossed your cloud could have a silver lining .

Sorry to hear that Andy, unfortunately it is always only about the money, they really don't give a rat's posterior about people anymore, if they ever did that is.
We are here for you mate.
Strength isn't about what you can do, rather it's about overcoming what you thought you couldn't do.

Sorry to hear that you were treated in such a rude, uncaring way. Unfortunately it is not uncommon in these days of emails and other impersonal ways of communicating. You have every reason to be hurt and angry.

I would look into that if I were you Andy. 22 years might give you an employees rights, self employed or not. Employee law is complex and a lot of companies get it wrong by being too gung Ho, I know my old company did once. It then had to track down all the staff that had been “let go” and pay them redundancy money. Comes down to it though, if they are that poor at staff relations who wants to work for them anyway.

Ah mate, so sorry to hear that.

I'm climbing out of a rough patch myself right now and I hope things also go your way very soon.

Sorry to hear of such 'crappy' news mate, like others have said it seems to be a sign of the times with cowardly management,

I'm sure though that an employer can't terminate a person's job / contract via a txt or phone call, there are legal procedures they have to follow in order to prevent them being dragged through employment courts... I'd be looking into this buddy if I were you..

Mrs L has just mentioned a certain ferry company that did this to it's employees a while back and got into some serious hot water due to British employment legislation.. not sure if this helps you in anyway...but it might..

Big man hugs for you and Rach.. chin up fella, don't let the bar stewards drag you down..

That is an awful way to treat anyone. Modern day scumbag management style. So, big cup of tea, big breath, then maybe seek advice, CAB maybe ?

I echo the others Andy. Shocking mate. 22 years and 'ta ta, don't kick the dog on the way out'. That's the trouble with big companies, no compassion, just cold hard fact.
I wish you all the luck getting a new job buddy, don't leave it too long looking. It is a big shock when you've worked for a company for that many years and then left out in the cold. Most servicemen experience it and that's after knowing when they were going to be released. Start working on an updated CV and get your self out there. I'm sure you'll be back in the work place soon enough.

Get some legal advice. There was a case recently where it was decided that a self-employed contractor who'd been working at the same client for several years was considered to have the same rights as a direct employee for sick pay and redundancy.
