Back in the late 1960's it was one of those long hot summer evenings, love life was in the doldrums, so invested in one of these new 'toys'... Had to slip into the side entrance of the Surgical Supply shop with the blacked out windows, and there I met with the owner who handed over the box and a bottle of perfumed rubbing oil....
So there I was sitting in my string vest and baggy 'Y' fronts, patio doors wide open, fan going to move that hot air around the room... And proceeded to unpack the new toy. Spent 20 minutes with my head up its orifice, breathing in talcum powder and blowing like blazes, then with a pop! and a rustle! I had a full blown toy bobbing and bouncing in the room and down her front was a dog lead and around her neck was a collar.... Now the owner had said that I should open the bottle of scented rubbing oil and rub it all over for a smoother and better interaction, which I did, it was going everywhere all over the toy, all over me when disaster struck.... the plug came out and with a phraaaat around the room and out the patio doors it went..... I dashed down the stairs and out the front door to try to capture it, but as my hands were covered in perfumed rubbing oil I could get no grip and after chasing the toy down the road I realised i would never catch it and I had better get back in before someone saw me in my string vest and baggy 'Y' fronts......
But the story does not end there, for three weeks the police were trying to trace the relatives of the wrinkled old lady that had hung herself from a lamp post with a dog lead......

:thinking: Blimey mike you had me in stiches at your post this really cheered me up as its bloomin raining here but i had a really good laugh at that im surprised no one elese has said anything lol:tongue-out3::smiling::smiling:

Right, let's get back to the serious stuff...
So when will the new build arrive (that sounds so much like the expectant father), will there be any aftermarket to go with it???

Expected Saturday. Although start time will be Sea King dependant. (End of March would be a pretty good estimate. Not in a rush - the one thing I have learnt is that when I rush into things they tend to go awry!!!!! I'll have a goodly amount of time to go over instructions, gather paints and anything else needed. As ever, it will fit in amongst everything else, pooch walking for one!!! Tea making and yaffling my way through home made buns and cake!!!!
I think a few AM parts may appear. From what I hear and read, the undercarriage as Dave intimated is a weak point.

Too kind Mike. As we are own worst critic I'm not too happy with the SK. I have made a few 'adjustments' to seats to ensure they fit. I made them too wide but got around it. As the Helix is the Sea Kingski of the old Soviet Navy it'll be a good counter for the SK. The kit doesn't include the dipping sonar so internally it should be easier!! (He said with crossed fingers).

Nope, it's not pretty but I do like the co-axial rotor set up. Beats having a tail rotor!!!
Mind you, this is the one that worries me!! Intermeshing rotors. Two rotor heads sitting at an angle to each other and the blades going through each rotors path!!! If one gearbox fails!!!! I dread to think of what happens!!!

IIRC, there have been a number of experimental helicopters that used jets on the tips. That doesn’t counteract torque, it prevents it entirely because there is nothing pushing the fuselage the other way. I’m guessing it was never a success because of the difficulty in getting this to work reliably — you have to somehow get fuel to the rotortip jets, for one.

Your right. I think The Hughes 500 NOTAR, (NO TAil Rotor), is the best of the single rotor helicopters. A different tech that involves air ducted out of the tail area to counter the torque of the main rotors. Plod uses a H500 NOTAR here in Dorset.
