    Modelling build quirks?

Do you have any limitations to what you may or may not build?

As a measure to control the size of my stash I introduced a few rules over twenty years ago, these rules included

Build only 1/72, their size and lower expense justified this rule although my XB70 Valkyrie begs to differ!
(I have broken this rule on several occasions since)

Build only British subjects, this rule didn't last long either when ex Soviet and Japanese types entered into my 'what if?' fascination.

Build only non belligerent types, this isn't through any pacifist agenda it's just that camo greys and greens are a bit dull (no pun intended) and been done before, so now I like to find interesting subjects that were trials test or research types including prototypes, these are frequently in bright colours

Not so much a rule but I noticed I hadn't built and American type for over ten years since building an Airfix P51 Mustang in Swedish colours in the mid nineties! and I can't think I put 'Stars'n Bars' decals on anything since the eighties! I do have American types in the stash now for those that now serve in the JASDF

This is how I ended up with a stash of hundreds of kits which lead to the great purge of 2010!

Not so much a rule but more a self regulated recommendation, 'do not allow stash over fifty kits'!

Stash currently stands around one hundred, I have 'no' will power against impulse purchases which seem such a great idea at the time!

I love that statement during the trial in the film'Breaker Moran' - "... there are no rules , only rule .303!" Good value to live by at one time!

Not many limitations that I can think of. Won’t build German SS, but I’ll try anything else. Not built a Helo, a ship, or anything space related, but that is just because I haven’t felt like it. Tried most other things though, including large scale Garden railway stock, scratchbuilt dead scale railways in 1:76.2 scale, figure busts, large scale figures, out of the box kits of most things, white metal figures etc…….I‘ll build pretty much anything that takes my fancy.

No real Rule here other than the "do I have room for it" or can I make room for it.

No rules. Just built what and when I want. Perhaps the only consideration is " Am I having fun".

                    My rules.

1/ Keep stash to 10 or less (a rule I have broken a few times, once it got to just over 20)

2/ Nothing smaller than 1/48. My current stash of 10 are all 1/32 WW2 warbirds.

3/ Only one build at a time, starting a new kit is a reward for finishing one

4/ No ‘shelf of doom’, I know I won’t return to an ‘abandoned’ build.

5/ If I stop enjoying a build for one reason or another, bin it. This is meant to be fun. (I have binned maybe 8/9 builds out of well over 100)

                    That is it for me……

One at a time, and shelf of doom rules are to live by for sure, however, never binned a kit, they have their uses

Never build a fantasy model, or science fiction ( only one built - on 'commission' ), otherwise, everything is fair game!

                          1. Get to the end of the build - Please...
                          2. Forget about dusting - keep building....
                          3. If the lights go out - move next door, theirs are working...
                          4. If SWMBO shouts from downstairs, claim later you had your music up loud in your headphones...
                          5. When out with the dog for a walk, plan your next build, then say sorry because your dog is humping that nice Poodle from the good part of town.
                          6. And if all else fails - start another model....

And if you believe the above, you will believe anything.... Build what you enjoy building.

I used to have a rule (this was when we had local model shops) If I dropped the box on the way home, then it was a bad luck sign and the plane did not get built (Yes, I used to build planes)....
