No Bench Time.................

Had first session - it advises you to give it ten minutes, just to check that you don't get any adverse reaction. Then build up to an hour a day, half an hour in the morning on low light, and the same time in the evening on high. Quite impressed with the thing, I was expecting it to be a little flimsy, but it's well made & a lot heavier than I was expecting - about the size of an ipad mini...............
Dave
Do stuff you enjoy while it's working and your mind will associate good things with it's use!
Make your fave meal, read a good book, watch your fave movie, anything that would give you a natural high!
Whereas some give it five minutes and give up saying it's not working! not giving it a chance!
They also make a great modelling lamp showing colours more naturally
Just get a few dozen of them and tile your ceiling with them! Ha!
Miko (future me - Cah that wardie is getting on my wick with all that chirpy optimism!) Ha!Comment

A week since I started using the lamp - and I think I'm beginning to feel a benefit ( or is it that spring is here ), but only a little at the moment. With an increase in dosage of meds, I hope my modelmaking mojo will return in due course. I do feel a little more 'with it '

Dave,
with the help of the lamp and hopefully more sunshine now that wet miserable winter is behind us you will soon be feeling your old self. Take care of yourself.Comment

I'm actually beginning to feel like I could return to the bench, but nothing onerous! I've been sitting tinkering with my 3D printer, and I reckon I've been pushing out some halfway decent prints - all tanks - all in 1/72 & all British - latest being from 1938/9!
It's taken a while for my new meds to kick in, and I reckon the SAD lamp has helped - my sleeping improved pretty quickly ( before I took the new meds ), I still have the odd day when I really have to force myself to do anything. I'm not sure that the talking therapy is worth pursuing, it actually seems to wind me up, and make me anxious, not what is supposed to happen, so I'll probably drop that.
Things seem to be on the up, though a bit slower than I hoped, but still up

Good news Dave, seems you’re making progress, but it’s a long slow road. Sounds like the SAD lamp is helping. As to the meds, I was told that they took 6-8 weeks todo anything, and that those around you would notice the difference long before you did yourself, so yours may need a bit longer. I know what you mean about talking therapy, I too didn’t get much out of it. I found the mindfulness and meditation part of the therapy I was offered helped much more.Comment

Aside from the 3D printing, I've really been getting the urge to get back to the bench and do some building. I did sit down, and look at the WIP on the desk, but decided to ditch it all. - Then, of course that means what am I going to choose for a renaissance project? I've decided on 1/35, in all probability WWII. It should be something that I've never tried before, or such a long time ago I can barely remember it - which includes a Tiger
These have caught my eye
Academy Tiger ( with interior )
Academy M7 Priest
Dragon M4 (105 )
Takom M3 Lee ( early )
HobbyBoss Pz IV Ausf. C ( ex Tristar )
Of course I could wake up tomorrow, and feel the irresistible urge to pick up the Revell 'Big Boy' locomotive.........................
As they say, " I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not sure "

Hi Dave - I've only just joined the forum and we've not met/talked (yet), but having just read through this thread I'm really glad to hear you're on the up and I hope you continue to do so. Dealing with depression, or metal illness is never easy, but the self-realisation that you have a problem is a HUGE first step and I wish you well in the future.
It also says a lot about this form that you've been able to, and felt you could, share your problems with everybody, and the kind of supportive responses you've had tell me I've come to the right place.
Keep well.Arnold Judas Rimmer BSc SSc
