What car do you first remember your father owning?

First I remember was a 1960 VW camper van then my Dad bought one like this from the Chinese ambassador to London.
1962 Chrysler New Yorker, 7.2 litre V8, push button automatic transmission,air conditioning, 14 MPG in winter 17 MPG in summer.
Used to put 6 foot by 3 foot sheets of metal in the boot with no problem.

My Dad decided that one of these was ideal for our family of six.Something to do with cheaper insurance or something.It was better than the Lambretta scooter that he upgraded from but only marginally.Going on holiday was a joy with us 4 kids in the back with all the camping gear.I think he got a Hillman Hunter estate later which was luxury.

Brought back a few memories - one of my friends' father had an Armstrong Siddeley Sapphire - it fascinated me, because of the large sphinx bonnet mascot!
Also what was known as the 'Doctors car' - the Rover 90 - in the days when doctors used to do house visits! ( did the GP get a discount from Rover? )

First one was a powder blue Ford Anglia which was eventually changed for a grey Hillman Imp (yeah, I don't understand either) which didnt last long as it was in our garage when some careless workers burnt it down. Next came a blue Ford Escort Mk 1 (a car I fell in love with, even though I can't drive)

I remember my dad's Hilman Minx, I can't really remember any details other than it was two tone biege and brown!
My mums first car a few years later was a mid blue Ford Cortina mk1, I even remember the number plate

I also remember our first trip out, she reversed into a lamp post putting a dent in the nice shiney chrome bumper!

My dad came home in a huge Zephier or was it a Zodiac. it was a station car huge thing that could just get in the driveway gates.
About that. My father came home from work in said station car with the back stop full of 3/4 square tube stock and about 100yards of 1/2x1/8 mild steel flat bar. T ell you the front wheels of the car left the ground on each bump and every time he pulled away. When he backed the car into the drive, to unload the steel into the garage. when he stopped the front wheels went up about 6inches in the air and stayed there!!! lol

A week later we have some really very nice wrought iron gates.

HI Steve exsuse me for askin you say you cant drive ? well how do you get around as my jen cant drive either as to scared to as she says too many mad idiots on the rd these days but i cant imgine how life would be if i could not drive for us as we live out in the sticks so a fair way to go shoppin

It’s not that unusual Chris. My brother in law doesn’t drive either. He does live in town though so uses his cycle or public transport. Anywhere out of town his wife drives.

First car of my dads i have any memory of was a Vauxhall Victor FB , white with a red roof . Once I got separated from my parents as a 2 yr old toddler in a busy Skegness car park , after frantic searching they found me at the side of the car , I’d made my way back to it - must have been the distinctive colour scheme !

The doors were hinged on the middle body pillar.
When I was young, I was in the front passenger seat. (Being ex. RAF, my dad didn't know the meaning of 'Slow') when the door suddenly flew open, but thanks to my dad's quick reaction in grabbing hold of me and hauling me back into the car, I am able to write this......Thanks Dad!

Bmw motorbike and sidecar, bmw isetta,ford taunus, plymouth roadrunner,ford falcon,fairlane,fairmont,lincoln continental ,pinto and the list goes on.

Oh! god yes! I forgot about the motorbike and sidecar he had, all wrapped up like mummies in the sidecar in the early hours of the morning and off on the journey from Birmingham to Darlington - no motorways then it was all A roads.....
