I have an Airfix 1/400 Scharnhorst kit that I picked up due to the box art and content! There is soooo much artwork from that company!

I'm a little older than I look
Airfix box art has got to be some of the best ever.
I remember a Big Orange in the shop on holiday and being impressed, it was there for ages, mind you it was a greengrocers:hehe:. Seriously though that box was in the Island stores for years, I was always fascinated by it then again it wasn't any good to me at the time, a set of polythene Romans or Farm animals could fit into my small rucksack and dad building a "Dog fight double" would just about go on the helicopter safely but attempting a 747 might be too much, besides mum needed space for her things
I'd love to know who had it in the end though.
Nearly all the ships were nice artwork, H.M.S Tiger was great with Victory in the background and the Graf Spee, very menacing. Pity they didn't follow up with the Exeter wasn't itComment

Catch Me If You Can was on TV the other night by co-incidence Perry...good film I thought...I came away with the notion..."Who says crime doesn't pay?", and, it was a true story!... he certainly had more than his fair share of cake, and got to eat it too!!!
Sour grapes on my part...
With that I'm off for a pint...
Better to be a refreshed failure than an un-refreshed success....
Thanks by the way for the info on the Sea Harrier....julesComment

This thread has brought back so many memories of Airfix kits I had as a kid. I can't remember a lot of what I had there were so many. Most if not all were influenced by the box art and Airfix was so superior in that respect.
Some of those that stick in my mind and still influence my decisions today;
Airfix 1/72 Bristol Beaufighter
Airfix 1/72 Mosquito
Airfix 1/72 Spitfire MKIX
Airfix 1/72 AEC Truck and gun
Airfix HO/OO Soldiers British 8th Army and German Afrika Corps
Airfix 1/72 Tiger Tank
Aurora Seaview submarine
Airfix Boeing 707. Can't remember the scale.
This one I bought after we went to watch the first 707 land at Birmingham airport, that was such a giant of a plane at the time.
Even back then I was extremely patriotic and mainly only wanted British craft. About 90% of all kits I had were British subjects.
I remember seeing an Airfix dogfight double of Hawker Hurricane and Doodle Bug in my local shop. By the time I had saved up my pocket money it had gone. I never did manage to get that kit!
I seem to remember playing with those models quite roughly and they took a lot of abuse. They certainly didn't seem to be as fragile as today's counter parts.
Sadly non of the models or toys I had as a kid lasted as they were either thrown out or given away by my parents!Comment

Anyway just a couple of thoughts from me, thanks for the subject Perry, great memories!

Great revival of a thread that Is really worth the effort......
For me, got to be the Airfix Lancaster for aircraft....or perhaps their B17.....nope, want both of them....though almost all of their aircraft were superb, especially the dogfight double series.
Civilian stuff, got to be the Airfix E type box with the cheetah in the background....
Armour, it’s the matchbox Humber armoured car, made that little beast seem really cool....
Last one, for figures, the Airfix RAF crewmen....
Cheers

For me it would probably have to be almost anything by Matchbox, largely because that’s what I grew up building — their 1980 catalog was one of my favourite pieces of reading materialComment
