Surely, a forum is a place for discussions and putting "all comments welcome" etc is unecessary. Perhaps, if you do not want comments, then say "No comments welcome" or else don't post on forums!

Someone telling me my panzer grey is incorrect or pointing out that the kit your building doesn't have all the correct rivets is a bit rude by my book.
I wouldn’t do it in real life, so I wouldn’t do it here.Comment

Most builds on here are posted in a blog, that's just the author showing what they have been up to. Having someone chipping in saying you are doing it wrong, or telling you what you should be doing next just isn't sportsman like.
Yes, I'm sure some of these people genuinely think that they are being helpful, but it isn't help if you haven't asked for it, it's interfering. I'd go as far as saying condescending.
It used to really wind me up, I just wanted to enjoy making my models my way, without the constant fear of someone pulling it to pieces. Thankfully after a few wise words from some of our more established members (and some strong anti-anxiety meds) I now just ignore it wherever possible.
If the unsolicited advice or critique has upset me too much, I'll just cease to blog that particular build and finish it "in private" :smiling3:Comment

To me a build thread is a personal thing where others can follow along, others think differently. Not a lot I can do about that really, c'est la vie!

Jacking someone's build thread is a Bozo no-no, imho, but it does happen. I try not to post anything but constructive comments and only ref pics if asked by the builder himself. Common courtesy is the key here. I think most of us are on the same page with this. I will not, however, abandon a thread, but address the individual as politely as possible, as to their intrusion and carry on. I won't let another rule my build, not a chance.Give Blood, Play Rugby, cause everyone knows football is for whimps!Comment

Sometimes it's about reading the forum, and reading the thread owner, especially if you're new. I've been on forums were nobody batted an eyelid at people posting photo's in their threads, and other's like this where it's a definite no (so apologies again for committing that particular faux-Pas here).
Personally, it's never bothered me and I've often just considered it all part of the conversations we start - because surely having conversations with people is the point of being on a forum. That being said, if I posted a completed photo and then someone else posted a photo of their build and pointed out why it was so much better, then yeah, that would annoy me.
Unsolicited advice is an interesting one. I like it, but it depends on how it's delivered. I really enjoyed my conversations with Jakko and the like on my recent Sherman build, learning about the issues with the kit and Shermans in general was fascinating and made the build much more enjoyable. But I have had threads on other forums in the past, and I'm thinking about one individual here (thankfully not on this forum) who can actually be quite rude about pointing out the inaccuracies of your build or the kit in general - often just after the builder has posted completed pictures. I can think of at least one occasion where somebody has binned a completed build because of it.
Again, just like in real life, a lot of it is about reading people.Arnold Judas Rimmer BSc SSc
