Afternoon all
As a few of you know over the last few yrs I had my full share of bad luck and family health issues.
First was the long winded diagnosis of ME back in 2020. That caused me to retire and is slowly getting worse. That calmed down a bit, then the horror of Julie being diagnosed with cancer. Thank god a emergency operation, radiotherapy and two cancer free checks ups, the third this Friday. So far all good.
Then my lovely poor mum. Truly horrible 10 months. Thought this must be the end, please.
A few days before mum's funeral on the 9th I started having terrible headaches, even 8 paracetamol only just controlled them. So thought it's the stress and it will go, but no, got worse. Phoned docs and yes no appointments for weeks, so I told the receptionist I had this terrible headache. The doc phoned me and said come down now. She took blood looking for inflammation and gave me steroids, yes roid rage on the way! Pain very quickly calmed down, phew. Sorted I thought, wrong
Saw her this morning to get the blood results, not good, told me I had temperal arteritis and after speaking to the hospital I had to go there immediately! it's inflammation of the arteries on the side of the head and if not treated can can cause blindness in one or both eyes. So sh** a brick off I went straight to the hospital. To be fair went straight in to the specialist. Had a scan, bloods, eye check etc. If I have any issues with vision or light I have to go back anytime immediately. Thankfully the doctors quick treatment of steroids has reduced the inflammation and of course the risk but now got a large bag of tablets.
Steroids, painkillers, vitamin D, alendronic acid as steroids can cause bone problems. More blood in ten days, if the inflammation has gone down further they will reduce the steroids in steps. Now got to carry a blue steroid users card now!
I have had it up to my ears now, thought after mum my luck might change.
Sorry ramble over, so cheesed off.
