Damn Mark, So sorry to hear this terrible news. My thoughts and best wishes for a rapid recovery Sir. It seems that 2024 has been a really crap year for a lot of folks on the forum. Please take care and do as the doc says. Keep the faith...

    Gute Besserung

That’s not good news, but hopefully they’ll be able to fix you back up reasonably well — if not better

As for your kits etc., if I were you I’d hang on to them. They’re not going to go off, so after you’ve gotten better you can always decide what you want to do with them. You could even see it as a goal to work towards in the therapy you’re going to do …?

What an absolute shocker for you, hope your rehab goes well.
When I lost the sight in one eye I made a knee jerk decision and sold everything - kits, tools paint etc. A few years later when I was accustomed to my affliction I regretted my decision so, in my opinion, don't do anything rash quickly
Take your time and concentrate on yourself.

That is bad news indeed Mark. I wish you a speedy recovery.
Now I know that at the moment things look as bad as bad can be but hang on to all your modelling stuff. You just don't know how you'll be in the future.

As someone who's not been able to bodge plastic for 18 months due to health problems I can feel where you coming from.......just as I'm about to kick start the hobby I've put my knee out so I'm in pain with that now

My advice is its too soon to tell......wait till you have had time and rehab......you might find once things improve a little it could become great therapy as you having to use brain and muscles.....will help to 'retrain' them

Try and stay positive......know that's easy to say but things will get better

                Sorry to hear your news.

First of all I recommend not taking any hasty decisions. I am not an expert on strokes by any means but often people do improve their dexterity remarkably. Whatever you do, don’t give up, don’t despair, work the problem and you could be surprised at the results.

My ladyfriend is a freelance speech and language therapist, many of whose clients are stroke victims. May I recommend that you take full advantage first of the NHS speech therapy but don’t just leave it there, go further with a freelance. The NHS will be a great help but their service only takes you so far. Some Googling in your area should help you find one locally, speech therapy can help you in ways beyond mere speaking up to and including general lifestyle.

Finally, welcome to the crocked modellers club, do post updates on how you are getting on and, line I intend to do, get well and back to that bench. You can do it.

Sorry to hear about your health problems. I would just like to say all is not lost. I had a stroke 4 years ago which left me paralysed down my left side. Luckily I'm right handed, but with a lot of good physiotherapy, both electrical and manual, within 6 months I had regained all function on my left side including about 99 percent use of my left hand. Get yourself a good physio you will be surprised at what they can do. All the best for the future.
                  John.

What a terrible turn of events for you Mark.

My Dad suffered a stroke many years ago and suffered quite significant left sided weakness.
However after a lot of intense physio/rehab he recovered enough use to be able to eventually return to work.
He worked as a tool setter in the plastic industry so a lot of hands on activity.
I realise that everyone is different but hope this offers you a few crumbs of comfort and shows that there can be light at the end of the tunnel.

Good luck with your recovery :thumb2:

                    Geoff.

It's all been said Mark, I can only add my best wishes for a full recovery over time.
Strength isn't about what you can do, rather it's about overcoming what you thought you couldn't do.

Good luck with the recovery. If it helps an elderly aunt had a major stroke leaving her with very little use of her right arm and hand, it took time but With Physio she did recover the use of her hand and arm.
so hang on to the modelling gear,

Give yourself time to come to terms with this and to start the healing process before you make any rash decisions Mark. You may have a long road to recovery in front of you, but long roads do come to an end. Keep dropping in as well. It’s good to have goals to aim at in these situations, and restarting modelling could well be one of yours.
