    It's not Friday 13th?

Just had a bit of a scare. Popped up to the loft to collect something. Half way up one of the stays went BANG!!! I can't even remember how I ended up on the floor. Upright and wondering 'what just happened'. Floor had bits of sheared nuts and bolts over it. I popped my head in the kitchen to ask SWMBO if I was ok after the Big Bang! What big bang? She replies!!

I did actually walk over to the calendar to check on the date, even checked it wasn't the 26th either!! (Twice as unlucky)!!
As I type, the last ladder is again in one piece and functioning. No thanks to S-W-M-B-O!!

The best laugh was trying to get her to fold the ladder up to close me in the loft whilst I reattached a tension spring!!! It folds in three sections. I just wish I had filmed her - so funny. Definitely not mechanically minded my wife - not at all!! But it gave me a laugh whilst my ticker was returning to normal function!!

    Ain't life fun?

Chris, I'm no youngster and I have no idea how I ended up on the floor, I was upright though. I do have good reflexes still. Have to be with the other half being a tad clumsy!! It did set my ticker going though I have to admit. Still - all sorted now. AND - I got to use big boys tools and didn't have to use the magnifying glasses!!! :tears-of-joy: Sadly, I didn't need to use a hammer!!!!

I'm just glad you're ok mate.
Strength isn't about what you can do, rather it's about overcoming what you thought you couldn't do.

I was born on a Friday 13th - and it's been going steadily downhill ever since!

I'm fine bud, just a little shocked it happened.

                :tears-of-joy: :tears-of-joy:
I had a get out of jail free card(s)
                1. I knew how it worked and the locking mechanism was 'inside' the loft!!
                2. I could always rope down to the hall!!!
                3. Skiing down the roof was also an option through a choice of loft windows!!

Glad to hear you survived, could have been nasty.

It reminds me of my loft shenanigans some years ago. I was fitting a new hatch with integral ladder. To make life easy I fixed two battens across the opening so I could lower the heavy assembly from the loft above and it would sit flush with ceiling below while I fixed it in place.

All Zoƫ had to do was then remove the battens so I could open the hatch and get down.

Of course I'd taken all of my tools up into the loft with me! I had to drill a hole in the ceiling big enough to lower a screwdriver through, or I'd have been trapped up there forever :tears-of-joy:

Sounds like I have a similar set up. One side of the mechanism holding the ladder to the hatch just came apart. I found several really cheap white metal coloured screws + nuts and bolts over the hall carpet. Replaced them with some quality decent sized screws.

Watched 'E' struggle with the multi folding ladder was truly priceless. And it did cross my mind I might be up in the loft a while. As I mentioned, luckily the mechanism for releasing the hatch was inside the loft so I popped it and pushed the hatch down to the point whee she could take over!!!
I do regret not having my phone for a quick video!!!!!

When she was fastening you into the loft, did she have an evil glint in her eye and a wicked smile on her face - mine would have...

I know how she ticks. If there is cleaning of any shape size or form needs addressing I know I'm safe! We had just eaten and so dishes needed attention. Surfaces to clean, a cooker to clean. I had at least an hour!!
