A farewell to a true friend.

Today Bruno, the dog who served with the Italian troops in Bala Morghab (NW Afghanistan), passed away or, as we say in the mountain troops, went ahead.
He was adopted by a civilian contractor and had been happily living in Italy for about 10 years. He used to escort our town foot patrols and was loved by all the soldiers who spent their duty tours in that awful place. Here's a picture taken when already in Italy.

The passage of a loved friend, a friend that cannot understand one word you say but can tell by the tone of your voice what you want and does their best to follow your request is a true friend...
I mourn the loss of our four legged friends more than I really mourn a human. Humans will kill just for the fun of it as we are witnessing all across the civilised world. A four legged friend only wants love and their meal in return for the respect they give you.
Bruno has passed on, but will be remembered by all that met him.
          RIP Bruno.

Until the meeting again over the rainbow bridge, play, be free, no pain or aging.
A dog for a human any day!

Always sad when we lose a comrade, and that is what they are. They can call them force multipliers but they are so much more than that. They go places we can't and do things we can't and all they ask for is some love and food.
RIP Bruno. Your duty is done - stand down.
