Hi there,

Haven't been seeing much of anything like slot cars around this chat. I thought that GB was still the place where every thing was happening in slotmania, eventhought spanions are catching up.

Still I use to be a passionate in this hobby, I've been racing and collecting those cars for the twenty past years, I even had one of the largest collection of 1/32nd slot ferraris of all origines. Last year, I ended by getting bored with slot cars and changed for RC warships. Never the less, if there are fans around the place, here are a few pictures of somepart of my cars...

Hi there, Hi Averof back in the late sixties Auckalnd New Zealand had slot car tracks in nearly every home garage. not the commercial plastic track job but the real partical board smooth surface four lane job powered by four 9 plate battries. In an attempt to keep my brother and myself at home so we wouldn't mix with the bad boys dad built our own track, it kept us home all right, but all the other kids including the bad boys with regular visits from the Jehovers also came to race through out the week . Many years of racing took place there few rules except got to school turn the power of off at ten o'clock, dads cars never got to go in the gargage. Many years later I wonder if the slot car craze would do well again as a commercial thing, with the modern electronics I'm sure kids would be attracted to the sport. My dad was into carving and my brother would take the plans from the next magizine scale it to suit 1/32 and in two days of the latest plan being on the market we would be driving the lastest body style made from balsa wood.

I think like most areas of our hobby it is sufferring in the modern world. Kids nowadays do not seem to want to be involved with anything that requires them to do things with thier hands and stol car racing seems to be on a decline as much as everything else. The equipment on sale nowadays is considerably more sophisticated and uses all sorts of available electronics but still does not seem to be able to generate the enthusiasm and the numbers that were involved when I was a youngster.

I actually built quite a comprehensive fixed layout in my previous house attic for my step son but he has now long since moved on and the track was eventually dismantled. I did keep two of the cars though, which still sit on a shelf as a reminder.

Just a sign of our times I'm afraid.
