Display Cabinets

How do most of you display your models at home?

Do you make your own display cases for each specific model?

Is there a good, cheap or best supply of cases for display purposes?

I am looking for a nice display case for some of my models. I want something that can stand in the corner and protect my models from dust and grubby fingers. As I want to create some dioramas they need to be protected from dust etc.

I built a wall case years ago for some of my cars, but it is getting very overcrowded now.

Something to think about in this direction based on my own experience. many years ago my brother picked up a garage display counter from a place that was being refurbished. It is simply a large glass case with a couple of shelves in it that was used for a counter in the garage as well as a display area for some of the bits and bobs on sale.

It makes you think that shop display stuff is actually quite a usefull idea for showcasing models so it is well worth keeping an eye on places that might be selling off such stuff. Second hand furniture places and the like are well worth a browse every now and then as well as auction rooms and business clearances. A lot of retail outlets renew display stuff every few years so there are usually such items kicking around and of course perfect for displaying your models in.

Display Cases you think you have problems

This display case came from Ikea cost around 35 notesthe problem is that the Connie :respect1:has to sit on top as she's too big as is current build C119 Boxcar then when I look at up coming builds Stratocruiser, DC-6, Super Connie spans of 50cm and more you can see I have a problem worthy of thought:thinking:any suggestions (other than drop down to 1/144 from 1/72) will be well received........Just been made aware by Mrs PLG what about the Aeroflot An12...Golden Nugget C130....Air France Transal 160.....British Midland C4 Argonaut.....BKS Ambassador....Avro York & Lancastrian oh s**t to paraphrase Jaws "We need a bigger house"

If you have the room and can be fortunate enough to find one, then those glass top and front shop display cabinets are really ace, sadly I had to leave one behind when I closed my model shop a long time ago,in the end I presented it to a community centre, you can get quite a few airliner type models into those, well worth loking out for and the haberdashery type counters are even better, made to last and so useful.

I use the 1/24 scale car display cases from Hobbico for my 1/48 scale tanks. Gives me enough space to build a mini diorama around them. And they are stackable.
