    Tacoma Narrows bridge

    Hi would like to know if it's possible build a scale model of the tacoma narrows bridge, with about the same aerodynamic properties?

      Howdy ebp,

      First welcome to the forum, we are glad to have you here

      Ok, onto your question....yes, it is possible to build a scale model of the bridge, however, i am not sure of the aerodynamic properties and whether they could be incorporated into the model unless you could "scale" everything about the model. ie...the girders would probably have to be made in a way that would make them weigh the same as the full size steel beams.....only in scaled relation.

      I know of this site, which shows a model of the tacoma narrows bridge that was build using original plans, you might attempt to contact the builder and find out his thoughts on the matter and ask if the model has the same approximate aerodynamic properties of the full size bridge.

          Thank you very much for the great answer. Unfortunately I don't have the time, money or the experience to make such a fine model, since i'm going to use it for a school project. So I was thinking if any of you could recommend a webpage were you can buy a model of the bride, just smaller and cheaper than the one above.
