    Balsa Wood

    Hi All,

After trawling round the local model shops here in the Portsmouth area, I have come to the conclusion that there is a shortage of Balsa aqt the moment. Has any one else found this, or is it just the local Solarbo rep hasn't been doing his job very well lately?

Looks like have to buy over the net, apart from Westbourne Models and Model Dockyard, anyone like to recommend a supplier?

    Thanks in advance

    Chris

*** Seems to be pretty general around here as well,to add to this the local model shop in Coventry has closed this week with a sign on the door 'This shop has now closed' sad signs of the times where the internet sales are taking over and closing the high street shops big time.

That particular shop changed hands recently and did not last long under the new ownership.

The ARTF revolution is also to blame as well for the lack of building materials available,as we have discussed here before not so many people build from scratch these days.

The company that I used to deal with was the 'Balsa Cabin' their stock of wood was excellent and graded as well, there was a large input of Australian balsa a few years back but the local family run business model distributor has now retired, there is also Spanish balsa as well, try a search on E-bay they seem to sell just about everything there and you never know your luck.

Who would have ever thought that we would be struggling to buy balsa like this ? if anyone finds any stock please let us know here, when I had the shop it was a monthly trip in the car to Cambridge to buy balsa wood,I would fill the estate car and that would keep me going for the following month in sales, seems like a good opportunity for someone to get started in a business on the net selling good quality wood ?
