    Dakota Research Advice

    Hi Everyone

I am currently trying to find out what I can about the 31st Squadron that flew C-47's and Dakota's in Burma during world war 2. My grandad was crew during the war and I would really like to build these aircraft in as close as possible markings to those that he flew in. Sadly he died a few years ago so can't ask him for info. Just not sure how to go about finding this information. I'm new to researching aircraft and always end up feeling a bit lost and not knowing where to look for the right info. If anyone could tell me where to look for this kind of stuff or if you know anything that might be useful to me please let me know.

Thanks everyone, would really appreciate help with this dilemma.

Hi Neil and welcome to the site,

Google is always the best bet for a search (don't forget the image search option on there) If you know what squadron etc you are looking for then enter that info in the search and hopefully you will come up trumps with some results. Especially with the Dakota as it was such a well known work-horse. If you have the aircraft ID markings try a search on that too.

There is bound to be a few photo's around and who knows maybe even individual photo's taken too that are not on the net. With the right search and e-mails to the right people, you may just get results.

I did just the same last night for my current R/C Heli project and got some very nice photo's back today from the company that used to operate them.

So I wish you luck in your quest !!

    Regards......Mark

There is a 31 Sqdn association.

I would try and contact them. I'm sure they would be willing to help. There may even be some of your Grandfather's old comrades there. They did some serious flying back then, Calcutta - Rangoon.

Best of luck with your project.
