    raf blue diamonds

    plez help...

i am building a blue diamond hunter t7. (re olde world matchbox).

paint advises royal blue, bought a new humbrol royal blue no15 but far too dark.also tried railmatch243 dark blue:nono:..not much better.

enquiries suggest 'randell blue' but no one so far heard of it.

any advise or ideas welcome..thank you

    Hi mate,

I always mix my own paint. I use a scale black and a scale white for example. Straight black or white on a model looks really naff. With black i add a touch of red and a touch of blue. And with white i add a very slight touch of yellow and a very slight touch of black. You will see what i mean if you look at my P47 Thunderbolt in the Under Construction section. I also mixed the blue on the star and bar. All livery on this model is painted and not decals. For scale painting the general rule of thumb is to make all dark colors lighter and all light colors darker. With regards to your blue i would lighten the blue with a slight yellow and then a very slight white. Try a sample on a piece of scrap card until you are happy. I am fortunate to have a reference that has all the color chips for every country, i then mix my colors to match the chips that are 100% acurate.

    Best of luck

    Andy

I think they mean roundal blue as in the blue used in the RAF cockade (that's the blue/white/red symbol) Examaple below from RAF Leuchars
