    Euro Militaire

Did anyone else go to Euro Militaire? I returned to modelling about a year ago after a very short 30+ year break and thought I was pretty good. My wife who is very supportive of everything I do and I mean everything said " why not enter?" Yeah why not I thought, I'm pretty damn good now!

I was bitterly disappointed not to complete my entry on time, it was a sure fire winner in the diorama section, I would have bet money on it it was that good!

Does anyone know that feeling you get when on top of Scafell Pike you realise you have left your car keys in the ignition of your car and when you get back 4 hours later they and your car are still there?

That's the exact same feeling of relief that felt when I saw the standard of the entries knowing that my entry was safely concealed at home on the table, nearly finished.

It was mindblowing! I spoke to one exhibitor who told me the secret of skin tones and that on the smaller scales like 1/144 he only does the 5 or 6 coats of colour wash, 5 or 6 coats oh and don't forget to line the ears with red!!!!

I felt very humble, but totally motivated and determined to enter a model good enough not necessarily to win but just to be there. Now I just have to live to 140 to have enough time to become that good!

Hi Dasha i have to say i've never been to any of these at all but i hear that the standards are extremely high for those who enter their work, i build 1:35 scale armour and even though the comments i have received from the folks hear make me blush my stuff isn't anywhere near that standard and like you say i would probably take me another two life times to be anywhere close. However that should not put you off from entering your work because the only way that we improve is to put our work with the best and see what happens, besides these people who do enter their work i will bet you thats what they must have thought at one point.

Next time try saying what the hell whats the worst thing that could happen and enter your work anyway you never know, as they say you must be in it to win it so don't put yourself down or rubbish your work, (that is somthing i have a habit of doing to mine) besides i do it for fun not to win competitions who knows maybe later i might feel different.
