    help needed

Hi all i hope someone can help here i was wondering if ther was someway of being able to restore the clear windscreen of an opel blitz. I accidentely got some paint on the screen and tried to remove it with thinner and the screen has went all foggy, is there a method to restore it to new or almost new? I hope someone can help.

You could try rubbing it gently with smokers toothpaste & then dipping it in Johnsons Klear to bring up the shine and restore the transparency. I don't guarantee results though! Patrick

I don't know how bad the staining is but I smeared some glue on my Blitz windscreen and I was able to hide it by weathering. Bear in mind, when these trucks were in service they would be covered in grime, glass and all.

Take a shuffty at the Blitz in my gallery, it might help.

Failing everything, the glass is flat so try making a new one out of scrap perhaps?

      Cheers Scott,

      Ron

think you may have had it we used to have a department in the factory where we used to do aircraft wind screens they had to be polished to a very high degree for the head up display so i would make a suggestion to ring a bae sight and ask to speak to someone in that department it may come down to the type of perspex i dont know sorry i cannot be of more help cheers mike

Actually Scott, having been wanting something a little better than my other half's emery boards (!), I've been looking around & I'm going to get some Micro-Mesh sanding sticks. They go from 1200 up to 12000 grit. There is also a solution & soft pads for polishing/removing very fine scratches. Here's a link to what I found:

          https://www.themodelcatalogue.com/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=167&cat=Sanding+Sticks% 2C+Pads+%26+Polishing

Relish Models also do some similar polishing/abrading cloths too:

Alclad II Micromesh Polishing Cloth Set

I think something like this is worth the investment as our modelling skills improve.

I like the ideas posted for cleaning the Blitz's windscreen, but is not the easiest sollution to bin the damaged one and make a new one?

I've had a quiet wander around the house and found any amount of stuff suitable.....Ferry Rockets box lid...as my late dad called those posh French chockies! Empty clear plastic food containers.....the list goes on!

Give it a thought Scott, :goodluck:

Scott, I recently had a near disaster when a cockpit mirror I was super glueing sprang out of the tweezers and landed glue side down onto the perspex canopy inside. After wiping what I could off, I polished with Brasso which left the canopy foggy, but when soaked in a bath of Johnsons Clear, it was back to normal. Hope this helps Derek

I can only echo the advice above. Polish with ever finer material, finishing with brasso or toothpaste and then give it a dip in Klear. There is no guarantee and you may still be looking for a replacement part but it's worth a go.

You need the original formula in a bottle that looks like this. Still available in some shops if you can't get any let us know. It is still available online but tends to cost more,I've got the "address" of an online supply at home.

                          Cheers
