    diorama accessories? which one?

i think woodland scenics are good for folige turf and there mats.

fields of glory models are also goo for diorama buildings and accessories.

because im no pro (and never will be!) im just wondering what you like buying or using for your dioramas.

I bought some Woodland Scenics stuff but so far I haven't used it coz I don't think it looks that realistic. That's mainly coz they're made for railway modelling at a smaller scale than 1/35 for instance. Apart from the static grass, maybe. Personally, I'm looking for other things to use-stuff like the bristles of large paint brushes, which make perfect grass (also only a few £'s!) or sea-foam seaweed which when sprinkled with dried herbs makes excellent trees & bushes. One important thing to remember in any dio is that battlefields are dirty, merry places with torn-up vegetation. And don't think you won't be good at it-I bet Ver linden, the grand master of modelling & dio's had his bad days along the way! Patrick

I know the boys have heard this from me loads of times cal, but I stand by it 'cos it works.

I very rarely buy any accessories for my dioramas, I source stuff from the best shop in the world.....Mother nature! Any scale of tree, bush and rocks are all in your garden.

The vast majority of ready made stuff is useless and looks awful. I don't understand why they are bought in the first place when it's out there for free!!

For buildings I use polystyrene in various thicknesses from packings in boxes. Lollypop sticks, anything that can be adapted.

I think it's more fun making things out of, and for nowt anyway ! I'm still a regular punter in the Pound Shop though.

I agree with Patrick. Don't be negative about your abilities and asperations. Enjoy your own achievements because there will always be greater and lesser people than yourself.

      Here endeth the lesson!

Patrick i know this is going to sound weird but deer hair sprayed the appropriate colour looks realistic, you can buy it at stores that sell fly fishing equipment, or if you want to mail me your address i will send you a sample and you can try it for yourself. All you do is cut it from the skin and sorten it from the bottom to the length you want then apply pva glue and once it is dry attach to the diorama.

Hi i must admit i would listen to Ron and Patrick on this one they know their stuff, there is no substitue for real twigs , moss and stones they look authentic where as some kit bits can look completely fake, however i have found that deer hair sprayed the appropriate colou make very like like grass.. this can be bought from any fly fishing out let.

lol I did see you mention deer hair before Scott & I've got some on order from a chap on ebay! So don't worry, I don't think its weird! I'm quite interested to see what it's like-even though it means I've spent money on something-don't tell Ron! Patrick
