    Not about models

Well as some of you know I am stuck in the house 24 hours a day at the moment because of some health issues.

    :inv:

The snow has made:chillin: it worse as I cant go out and do my daily timed walking:exercise2:.

    So what to do

well as I am not able to go out and do the physical side of the work, which my super Son is doing for me. I get to do all the admin work in between this and the couple of models I have been working on a New website we dont wish to put any more money than needed for advertising, yellow pages is enough on its own. :moneybags The charges some of the companies want to design and host a website can be a bit steep add to that the charges for "Search engine optimization" you can be looking at a few thousand pounds.

Any how i have come up with a site, the hardest thing is to look at it objectively as a customer would look at it.

So knowing what a discerning, knowledgeable lot we have on this forum and the friendly help I have received about modeling if anyone for a few minutes break would like to look at my site and give me some feed back good or bad, bad being as important if not more important then good (If you get my drift) then I would be very grateful

    so here goes:emo6:

    Our site is at www.guardianpestcontrol.co.uk

Like i say any comments welcome.

I have had a quick look Hugh and it looks good and works very well, very fast to navigate. I have noticed that there are a couple of duplicate pics in the gallery, the water tank appears to be the same in both shots as does the litter of rats found in the garage wall.

On a personal note, I am not sure about the rat on the home page. While a good and effective pic, it looks a little 'cut out' which does not convey the same professional look of the rest of the site. This is just a personal opinion though.

Hi Hugh , I think it looks good mate , but what I would change is the NPTA , FSB , and UK REGISTERED EMERGENCY PEST CONTROL headings - and move them to be with your company name, I`m a Bupa maintenance supervisor for a nursing home and we have to use Greencare pest control but if I was looking for an alternative company I would like to see that a company is registered with the right bodies , you could also add that you do your best to humanely remove any pests ( you know what the UK public are like with animals even if it is a wasps nest , rat etc etc )

I hope this does not sound negative its not meant to as your site looks very good.

I've had a quick look around and thought that the site looks very professional. I found it easy to navigate and everything loaded quickly. I can't think of any negatives. If I was looking online for a pest control service in your area and found that site I'd give you a ring.

Sorry Hugh I must also add - Greencare pest control are country wide , Bupa homes use them and when they come to us they use local firms that are subcontracted to them , it might be worth contacting them and see if they need pest controllers in your area, could be a nicer earner mate.

:bigthumb:No guys it does not sound negative, I would much rather someone said what they didnt like or notice a mistake etc, It is very hard to be objective about a subject you know well what makes sense to me is sometimes total babble to someone else, also with so many different browsers screen sizes etc it is hard to check out how everyone is viewing it.I am trying to cover all the bases, we dont want to sound to small for the big customers (like we cant handle it) or again dont want to sound to big for the local trade.

Total cost of the website so far has been £10 so pound for pound against the yellow pages it has brought far more in fact probably 500% more! I just need to be able to get out there again and do the work !

I have said to my son as long as he wants to he can work with me, so when I can get about again I will need to chase alot more to get enough work for the both of us, if things dont get better then we have agreed that we will swop roles and I will work for him in an admin role and he will become the "Owner"

I am very happy he wants to do it that way as I would hate to see 12 years of building this business go down the drain.

I've been designing websites for a few years, although I don't do that many now, but it can be pointless unless you get it ranked on search engines, just a few tips, I would reduce your meta tags down to no more than 20 words, and use words that show in your page that makes them more relevant, submit to sites like ODP - Open Directory Project and any other directory you can find, and get a sitemap and submit it to Google and Yahoo it get's them to start crawling, there's plenty sites on the net that will help you SEO your site, you just need time to do it.

hi hugh, looks mighty fine to me. Very easy to get around ,informative ,professional, but crucially it gives an impression that its a company who are friendly, reliable and know what theyre on about. In other words you sold it to me perfectly , i'd definitely use your company if i had a pest problem. cheers tony

Hi Hugh, really good website you built there. Agree with all the comments as above, my only suggestion is on your "Area" page. I would increase the map to centralise the towns / villages and then place a yellow circle around the area to make it more defined. Other than that, it's very well designed and easy to navigate. Hope this helps out.
