Those who take the time to read my posts, and may I take this opportunity to thank you all... you will be aware of my total frustration in finding paints as I have to order them online and I keep ordering what I think is right only to find it is nothing like I thought when it arrives. Well, a friend at work was talking to me the other day about when he used to do railway layouts. I pointed out that he would be unable to do it easily now as there were no model shops in Peterborough. He gave me one of those 'poor sap' looks and gave me the address of a 'small' railway shop on an industrial estate just a few minutes from the city centre.
Well, to make a short story long again, I called in this afternoon while on our weekly pilgrimage to the Temple of all things we like, that is ASDA. This 'small' railway place turns out to be a huge place full of railway loveliness. More importantly, the first thing I saw as I walked in was a huge stand of Humbrol Acrylics and Enamels and all other bits like glue, varnish, thinners etc. I was in multi colour heaven.
Reeling from this heady excitement I turned to come face to face with what is probably every Airfix kit made (other than the 1/48 TSR2) The 1/24 Mossie was there for £130 in a box slightly bigger than a suitcase. Bouncing away from that to catch my breath, I came across a couple of shelves with assorted Trumpeter , Dragon and Italeri kits. from these shelves came the plaintive cry of an Italeri Kubelwagen in 1/35 for £5.95. Buy me, it cried, so I did and a few paints, scenic ground type stuff and a promise to be back. OK, it isn't a great 'model' shop but at least I can now say that I have a Local Model Shop.
Ironically, on our way home with a boot full of food we don't need, we passed the sign for a new garden centre that opens soon. On the sign were the words 'Hobbycraft opening Feb' I must have been a really good boy last year as my dreams are coming true. Just hope the Hobbycraft will do modelling, mainly as some branches do a decent range of paints. There is no way I will be able to afford their kit prices.
The other thing that was in the Railway place was an airbrush kit from EXPO. It is a box type compressor but does have an air tank inside the box style case, anyone know if it is any good? Sorry I didn't get the model number but I would think it is their basic one.
