Titanic, looking through the round window

I'm making the 1:570 Revell Titanic model, and have drilled out all of the tiny portholes to add some light. I reckon some acetate glued to the inside coloured with a yellow wash, will give the impression of the ship being alive and busy.

So how to do the lights? will need torch sized bulb holders and AA in line battery holders X2 to light it all up, then I plan to put a switch in the plinth. Any ideas folks? I can't go back now as I've drilled all the holes.

And I don't want it to sink!

Sounds like you got the idea right, Check out maplins for other lighting options though, there are strips of LED lights you can get now that are really bright, I think places like Halfords do them to, Would give more light and an even flow through the inside of the hull. Then i would pop a little push on/off switch inside one of the funnels out of sight.

if you go to your local pound shops then at least one of them will have parasol / garden umbrella led lights in stock. they'll be cheap and have power modules attached. they come in a few different colours too.

Can I suggest you consider model railway lighting? Here is a quote from a lighting system on ebay which may be of use to you.

LED Low Power, Cool Running LED Lights For Model Railway Lighting

You receive 100cm in length of 60 LED of Cool White, with 6W LED Driver. The LED Driver converts the mains to 12VDC, low running will only draw approx 4.5Watts of power 0.38A if you use the 1 Meter length. These are non waterproof, if you need waterproof see or other listings.

Super Bright High Power SMD 3528 LED strip with a life expectancy of 50,000 hours. This LED strip light really does have a massive array of uses in both the home, car, boat, caravan, motorhome, canal boat, cabinet lighting, Model Railwat, window lighting, in or outdoors and so much more. It just goes on and on the amount of different uses this strip light has. Can be cut every 3 LEDs to achieve desired lengths. After cutting just join the next strip tigther ie + to + and - to - rather than running a lead all the wat back to the LED Driver, You can use 1 meter strip to light up different part of your Model Railway.Red, Blue & Green colours also available, just ask if you want something different from Cool White, longer length and larger LED Drivers also available. The strip comes pre wired to the LED Driver with RED & Black leads (Red +12V and Black 0V) all you need to do is add a mains lead to the driver, L & N no need for an earth as are class II.Other length available, why not light up the underneath of the railway railway track, as Led strips are just 8mm wide x 2mm high. Bling that tracl with different colours for different trains, or light up bridges train stores etc the possibilities are endless.........................................

The link to the item is, but not for long as it's a live sale: 12VDC LED RAILWAY LIGHTING STRIP, HORNBY MODEL TRAIN, 1M (60LEDS) + LED DRIVER. | eBay
