2nd dio , 1st stage Ardennes

Hi Guys , just started me 2nd dio today - very early stages at the moment , so far its just the base - 1/2 inch MDF with quadrant round the edge (coming from the building trade I should know better , I cut the mitres free hand , next time I`m getting the chop saw out), 20mm polystyrene(cant spell it sorry) fox holes dug out - 3 big ones at the back the others will be bomb holes, then the 1st coat of tile adhesive ( sovereign gold star, great stuff and its white ) with the photos I tried to show the playing field which is 400mm x 300mm , also I will be picking out around 12 figures from the little lot I`ve now got the Tiger 1 will be used for another dio , and the others will go to what modellers I believe is called the stash,

after seeing backbreakers 1st dio I feel a bit embarressed posting this

That first picture looks like Christmas!

Looks like a good start to me. Looking forward to watching it grow. Remember that us newbues are still interested in when things don't go perfect so we can learn from them.

I just know this is going to be good Richy. You have no reason at all to feel embarrassed about posting your great work just because you compare it to someone else's. If we all did this then there would only be one person posting lol. You have talent at doing these dioramas and best of all, you are sharing it for which we are all grateful. Will be very interested to see how you tackle the snow. I feel a Band of Brothers sitting again, my favourite part was the Ardennes section.

Richy, I hope you're joking about being embarrassed. We all have different interpretations and asperations when it comes modelling, be it the build or the painting.

Some folks, like our mate backbreaker put a lot of superb detail into their work, others keep it simple.....to each his (Or her) own!

So do what you are happy doing. It's your dio. and be happy with your own achievements.

Just remember John's now famous motto......Have fun.

Hi guys , about BB`s dio was tonge in cheek but you have got to admitt its the db`s , anyway tomorrow if the adhesive is dry I will attempt to add some polyfiller to try to bring the groung to life and bed the 1st layer of sandbags to one of the foxholes after that more filler to pick out some details, also I`ve primed some figures for the 1st time and I must say it really shows up the details so with a bit of luck it might help my painting skills, does anyone else agree this having to go to work and sleeping game gets right in the way of modelling !

Sadly, I need my sleep but going to work is a royal pain in the ass.... I hope to get my airbrush at the beginning of Feb so I may have to throw a sickie for a couple of weeks till I get used to it lol. I am lucky in that Kate, my partner wanted to work full time when she got a promotion in June 2009 so I went part time, we have a disabled daughter so one us has to be home from 3:30 for when she comes home from school. In theory this gives me plenty of time in the afternoon but I rather rashly said I would do all the ironing and cooking and such as Kate works until 6:00 so I shot myself in the foot a bit lol.

I`ve a couple of little ones myself mate and they do eat your spare time up but its worth it , I`ve had my airbrush a few months now and have only used it once to do a base coat on a miniart house , to be honest I`m scared to go near it , suppose I`ve got to bite the dust at some stage and go for it and if I cock up then so be it got to learn at some stage

WOW Richy, looks like someones going to be busy mate. Really looking forward to this one, and don't feel embarressed, we all had to start somewhere and we all made mistakes but we all have "fun".

How's your credit card feeling after buying all that lot Richy? ;o) I reckon that will keep you busy for a while! I'm looking forward to seeing this one develop & turn out as good or probably even better than your 'Mopping Up' dio. As far as the air brush goes & I don't know which type you've got, get some scrap or used plastic milk 'jugs' & just have a go-it's the only way to learn, at least that's what I've found. One tip though, have plenty of cleaner & thinners to hand (I prep mine in spare bottles) coz it's a mare when you're getting right into it & need to change colours with no cleaner around. Patrick

Hi Patrick , yep credit card is good mate , I keep telling the wife if I spash out now I can build up my kit and model stash for future builds hence saving money in the future , little does she know eh ! as for the AB I`m going to sacrifice my sherman at some stage and I`m sure I will be on here asking - how do you do this - what am I doing wrong - sort of questions ,

Wise words there coz inflation means a quid spent today saves 2 quid in the future-I don't think the missus believes that, she just humours me! Ask any questions you like mate, I'll do my best to help as will the other guys. I bet I'll be doing the same when I tackle the mottling on my Heinkel!

Hi Richy i have to say it looks like you are off to a good start, can't wait to see the finished item nice one kepp i up the good work and keep posting those pics. Yes i agree that work has a tendency to get in the way.. sleep however is a different matter i like sleep good work so far.

This is going to be a great dio and like John said have "fun".

One tip I have for using the AB, and I speak from experience, is less is more.

Hi dograt , got em all from netmerchants mate , great delivery service, massive selection, and have always had what I want , saying that I`ve got a new 1/35 tamiya willys jeep coming from eBay - all the shops charge around £12 but I got this one for £7 with free postage (bargin)
