    The good old days.

Hi all, a good few weeks ago i was thinking of some of the models i built when i was a kid, and made a mess of them too. There were some kits that i would loved to build now but, one sticks in my mind, it was the Matchbox 1:76 scale L.R.D.G. 30cwt Chevrolet & Jeep. And now Revell have the old molds i can now get my wish (building it now).

My question is this guys & girls, if there were a model from your childhood you'd like to do now (now you have the knowledge), which one would it be if you can get the chance?

What a great question.... I cannot say what really stood out for me back then. However, I did the Bismarck which I made a total mess of, it was finally sunk on bonfire night with a hull filled with bangers. Wasn't dramatic as it melted more than blew up as the fuse burned lol. Although maybe not the Bismarck but, if ever I feel confident enough I would love to build a good model of a ship, possibly one of the big American Aircraft Carriers, but the impending release of the newAirfix Illustrious may be the catalyst.

      The one that got away!

15 years ago I spent weeks scratch building an interior for an Escort Cosworth, then melted the body shell trying to dry the primer! I'm still bitter. Maybe I should try again...

      Great question

hi john ,great question. When i was a nipper I always wanted the huge revell 1/32 kits, and managed to get my hands on the 1/32 beaufighter when i was about 12. I never quite finished it then,so when i took up the hobby again and revell re-issued it i had to get it. I hope i did it justice this time round. BTW, the little matchbox armour kits were brilliant werent they?they even came with a little dio base (in fact i got myself a wespe and montys caravan in the modelzone sale!!!!) cheers tony

are either of you going to do it in african colours or the fall of berlin and use the street scene dio. Im undecided ,really liking african theatre stuff at the mo but the street scene is wicked what with the ruined statue and cobbled street etc. Maybe ill just have to get another one and do both!!! tony

These walks down 'Memory Lane' can be dangerous. I can see this one costing me money!

Back in the days when I still wore short trousers - many, many moons ago - I got hold of a large scale anti-aircraft gun. I can't remember where it came from or what happened to it. All I remember is that it was moulded in dark green and had two ammo magazines alongside the breech which were circular frames and you could remove the shells. The general layout was similar to that of a mobile Bofors.

I'm guessing it would have been around 1/35 scale and probably done by Revell. I can't think of anyone else doing large scale stuff back then - it was 1965 or thereabouts. Anyway, I was too scared to build it so I asked my dad to do it for me.

Now I'd like to have a go myself so ......

Can anyone help me identify what kit it is?

I did intend to do mine as Europe, green, as I would like to base it on the real thing at Duxford which I have seen touched and not taken pictures of lol

You are on. Now what did I do with the kit lol. Not many WWII film I like, although Longest Day which was a vehicle for as many 'stars' as possible claim some glory, is good fun. Saving Private Ryan was well made if a little loose at the end. But I just love Enemy at the gates, stunning opening and great sets all the way through. No need for the sex bits though, spoiled the film..... My God, I am getting old.....
