    Respect to you aircraft lads

Hello boys , while waiting for some stuff for my Ardennes dio I thought I would bite the bullet and start my 1st bird - the cheap as chips 1/48 tamiya MK1 spitfire , with dio lads making aircraft and aircraft lads making dio`s thought I would join in , boy what a game just to get the figure looking half decent was a nightmare without the basic cockpit area , the guys who talk about and do 1/72 P/E stuff must be very very good or mad , I hope the rest of the build gets easier,

Massive respect to Steve and all the other aircraft lads with their 1st class builds , not as easy at it looks but I`m still enjoying it.

    God help me

    Richy

Looks good Richy, hang on while I get my magnifying glass!

Brave move into aircraft. Think you'll come back to earth soon? I want more Ardennes updates!

I think 1:48 is a great scale for aircraft, big enough for detail, small enough to live with. Trouble with going to so much trouble with cockpit and pilot is that you don't see much of it once the fuselage is fastened up. It looks great to me though so you are doing a fine job of it.

Sorry guys tried to get better close ups but my camera would not let me ( a new camera is on the long list of stuff to get ), don`t worry Tony 1/35 dio`s are my 1st passion but still like to try other things, if this comes out ok I plan to put it on a nice hardwood varnished base with summer time scatter grass a nice simple dio if the spit comes out ok ?

We`re in the same boat Scott , Right then - the airbrush is coming out now for only the 2nd time ever , it seems an ok build so far but I`ve filled a few seams with tippex and rubbed them down being a 1st I was not sure if this filling was needed - maybe the paint would have got over this but not worth messing up at this very early stage ? the decals and the final coat are the only issues that really worry me ,

Happy days , will report back how the airbrushing goes

Looks great Richy, we should of done a Battle of Britain thread. This could be the one that shot down my 109.

Richy here is something to make life a little easier, when you are doing panel lines instead of mixing washes and trying to get the paint into the panel lines, buy a 0.5mm nibbed black pen then all you do is run it around all your panel lines, it also takes a lot less time and the effect is nice. I've done this with my 1/24 spitfire and it works... less mess to clean as well, hope this is useful.

Coming on a treat Richy! Definitely stealing the Tippex filler idea. Nice to see the ubiquitous lager can in the photos too. I kept my drink out this time, after last weeks mess of a thread!

Hi Guys , just a quick update - 1st time I`ve used klear and must say its the nuts , still have another coat to put on when the decals are dry then a bit of weathering and then the final coat satin or matt ? not sure yet,

Just one thing - the roundals came with seperate white backings , don`t know if I messed up here but I did not use them ? adding another layer of decals would have made it harder to pick out the panel lines in my eyes .

Richy, I gave my model a coat of New Klear last night and this morning I gave it a coat of Vallejo matt varnish.

It turned out just what I wanted in as much as when it dried it left a superb muted silky matt finish, which was just what I wanted.

Perhaps the silk varnish might leave it a bit too shiny?..I don't know (but I know people who do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
