    display cases

Hi, I received a model oil rig for xmas but don't want to start work on it until I have got myself a decent case to store it in (to prevent dust build up). Any ideas where I can get a good priced one? I don't really want to spend more than £50. The dimensions it would need to be are: 70cm long, 30cm wide, 55cm high. Or any ideas how I could make my own?

Hello Zijstock, the cheapest way would be to use acrylic sheet available from DIY stores, for the frame work you could use the pre-shaped slotted ramin stripwood mitred at the corners, make five sides neatly assembled at the corners with the acrylic sheet lightly glued into place, glue three sides together, then the top,for a base use MDF,the final panel could either be hinged or screwed into place, for a cabinet with shelves glue a ledge made from stripwood or if you can get it clear plastic square rod, then slide in the shelf.

There are probably other ways but this gets around the problem and expense, plus the weight factor of plate glass.

When cutting the acrylic sheet leave the protective membrane in place until you have completed the cutting otherwise there is a real danger of scratches.

The above will make you an economy no fuss cabinet for your oil rig.

Any ideas for a nice looking, but affordable case for the JoTiKa HMS Victory?

The actual boat measures 1385 mm long, 940 mm high and 525 mm across the main yard.

I'd love to build one but the size and caseing it are putting me off

        Hi Ken,

Try giving Amari Plastics at Hedge End a call. I know they do a plastic sheet almost as clear as plate glass and a little cheaper. Not sure on the real cost but may be worth checking out.

            Ken,

Tell her who must be obeyed that it a new dog house for the Cav. Failing her believing that you could use the dog house yourself as you will probably be in it again :damn: :damn:
