I was reading this review of the Eduard kit last night and it really does sound awesome. Some of the points Steve mentions and John's early concerns seem to be put to bed, but we'll only find out by trying it!

Focke-Wulf Fw 190 A-8 Review by Brett Green (Eduard 1/48)

    Bring it on.

      Thanks for the review.

As was already mentioned, the group build is all about bettering ourselves as modellers. The Eduard kit, etched parts, airbrush, oh and of course the fact that its an aeroplane are all alien territory to me, and so i'm relying on some kind words and TLC from the forum when i cock it up and launch it out of the window!!!

I'm game, anybody else feel like stepping away from the comfort zone?

Dont forget everyone, eduard do a "weekend" edition of their fw190 too . These are still the same quality but a lot simpler and without all the extras ie. photo etch ,canopy masks etc. They usually only have one decal choice too and the fw190 retails at about £11.50 from hannants.I think this is the one im going to go for, mainly because ill stand more chance of getting it done in 3 months!!! cheers tony

                  Hi folks,

Nobody's mentioned the 1/48 Airfix FW190! I've seen one review which doesn't seem so bad, but does anyone know different? I'm asking 'cos I've seen them advertised at £10 including P&P an' that makes it affordable for me!

                  Gern

PS Congrats on the new job Graham. Just hope you don't stick in a rule about all our future GBs being horse-drawn! Tee hee!

Mmmm, Equestrian group build..... would that include a Ferrari? There is a possible wheeled GB coming up later in the year lol.

There is a build of the Airfix 1:48 FW 190 here on the Airfix tribute forum. Gives you a chance to see it being built. Looks OK to me

Well I have been told that my Fw190's will be landing in the shop friday. I have ordered two, and will take the final pick when i have seen them. both of themTamiya 1/48 a 190D-9 and 190A-3

Spose I'll end up buying more paint for them to....

What was the final call on the presentantion. just the kit? simple base? diorama base?

Just had a quick gander and noticed he gives two Humbrol colours for the grey camouflage which look close to me. I know someone was looking for Humbrol equivalents for RLMs 74 and 75. I expect a few will be looking for these colours come April 1st.

Please don't paint your seats green. No idea where he got that from (maybe Airfix's instructions) but it's wrong. Dark grey (RLM66) for the cockpit interior including the seat.

                        Cheers

                        Steve

Steve, when I was building my Bf 109 recently, you kindly gave me the colour matches for the cammo...

Here are the ones mentioned in your post:-

                          RLM 74 = HUM79

                          RLM 75 = HUM106

                          RLM 66 = HUM112

I know you could have furnished us with these yourself, but I think you are going to be mighty busy come April 1, so I thought I would give you a hand!!LOL

No probs with that David, I was considering the same kit. Now then, this is a fine example of why we do a group build of the same aircraft for this first one. We may not always do the same, a theme may be appropriate at some point. However, the info that Steve has give on colours is a benefit to us all. If we were all building different aircraft, info like this would become difficult to share and very confusing. Cheers Steve, much appreciated. have to say I didn't notice the Airfix one not being grey but you are dead right (as always) it is the RLM66 grey.

Can you use a dio base? Why not, I cannot see why but if I do one, it will probably be another 'scenic' base rather than a diorama. Just a tip if anyone plans to do a base, very often the German fighters were parked on a hardstanding made from planks of wood (sleepers?) so start saving those wooden coffee stirrers from McDonalds, they are just about right for the job.
