    Vallejo model color...convert

Well having got bored waiting for the start of the group build, I made a start on my Matilda. At the time of purchase, I thought I would give the Vallejo Model Colors a try.

Why on earth have I not tried them before!! Spray like a dream. Exellent cover, even thinned right down to under 50/50. No smell! (my wife likes that bit).

The only question I have now is what to do with the 60-70 tins of Humbrol that are now cluttering up the draw. I think its safe to say that all new purchases of paint in the futur will be vallejo.

Just a quick question. Can Vallejo be painted over Humbrol and vise-versa or will humbrol react if painted on top?

I thought you didn't have to thin down the Vallejo paints? Or is that just their Model Air paints? But anyway i totally agree. They make fantastic paints for spraying.

Model air doesn't need to be thinned, although you can if needs be. The Vallejo site says that you should add their thinners, but its ok without as far as i can see.

Model color does need to be thinned though. I use this special clear liquid which i found in the tap in the kitchen!! I mix it in 1:1.

I am totally converted to acrylics. and, like Ian said, no smell. (although i clean with reamer coz it smells great and makes me go dizzy after a while!! :grinball2:

I hear you should not use Eau d'tap as it will cock up, sorry, clog up the air brush. This is very true if you have hard water, with lots of chalk in it (like I do). Destilled water to thin and wash out, then a quick blast of a solvent type cleaner when done for the day. Thats what I have read any way.

A problem: Never had this happen with Humbrol, but then I do thin it right down. Clogging at the tip!! Having gotten half way though a 1:1 thinned mix, the tip stated to clog up on me.

Is this a case of not thin enough, to much air, or just to slow at painting?

I also have a bottle of retarder, any one tried that.

Does any one know how Vallejo's metalics are? I am thinking more steel and other metals rather than metalic colours. I am a fan of Metal cote at the mioment, but would like to hear from users of tha Vallejo ones. Do they give a convincing finnish?
