    Maskol question

    Ok folks don't know if anyone has used this or still uses this Airfix maskol i aquired some the other day. So the question is this how do you apply it? i've tried applying it with a brush but it looks lumpy and horrible, what am i doing wrong?

    Hi Scott,

    I've used this as well. I think it's a rubber based compound and that's why it doesn't 'flow' like a normal liquid. As it's only designed to keep your normal paint away from the kit, it doesn't matter what it looks like, and you should find it peels off very nicely into thin rubbery sheets afterwards. I have read somewhere that you should not leave it on the model for more than a day or two 'cos it sets very hard and sticks tightly to the plastic making it very hard to remove.

      Don't use it much but it always sets in a mess! I too applied it with an old brush. As Gern says,it doesn't really matter as you're going to peel it off anyway.

        I use it from time to time and yes its real ugly but that is not the point. Should it be to hard to mask small or narrow bands, Humbrols can be thinned a bit with water. Only mix it when needed.

        Likw all forms of masking it should be removed as soon as the paint is on.
