    My next builds...

At the Hinckley show, I was much more restrained than Dave and bought only four kits, three of which will be a bit of a gamble and the fourth? Well, that could be a problem.

The fourth is my first serious move on 1:48 armour. I bought a Tamiya 1:48 Marder III. There are two versions of this that Tamiya do, the Marder III M with 7.CM Pak 40 and the earlier Marder III with the 7.6cm Pak36. I went for the latter as it is depicted as a winter camo and the single standing figure that comes with it has the winter gear on. One of the reasons I went for this version is that the other one would have the sand with red/brown and green camo. Now Dave will testify that I did a lot of mumbling along the lines of :"how the hell am I going to airbrush that with my cheapo airbrush at 1:48", in fact I nearly talked myself out of the whole expedition into 1:48 Armour just because of that. But, challenges are what make the day so I have started my collection.

Two of the other three are old kits. One, a 1:35 Bergepanther from Italeri is not world class but I hope to make something of it hopefully helped by a small amount of Photo Etch I have ordered for it. Nothing spectacular but it will help improve it slightly.

The other old one is the Tamiya 1:35 SAS Jeep. This has been re released but not improved and I have no doubt that it will lack a few niceties that we have come to expect on modern kits. However, it is one of those classic old Tamiya kits and I made one (badly) years ago, this one will be better. Again, a small amount of PE has been ordered for this to help with straps but especially the Sand Channels which will look much better in thin PE.

Finally, and I have some mixed feelings on this one, is the MiniArt 1:35 U.S. WWII Motorcycle WLA. The classic Harley Davidson Hard Tail with windscreen and the big holster mounted Tommy Gun.

This is a superbly detailed kit so why the mixed feelings? Well, it does have some very delicate and vital photo etch parts. These are not alternative parts, you have to use them and you have to shape them correctly. These include the spokes which come in the form of two PE discs for each wheel that have to be 'dished'. So important is it that you get these right, the kit includes plastic dies to press them into shape with. There is also a block onto which you shape the stays and other parts. Remember that although this is 1:35, it is still a small kit. Each tyre is made of 3 slices to get the tread pattern right and the PE spoke discs get sandwiched into these. Some of the smaller parts are so small, the sprue it tapered to a point with the tiny yet detailed part on the end of the point.

I have read a couple of reviews and the conclusion of both is that the kit is superbly detailed but very complex to build and get the PE to fit correctly. Really looking forward to building it......

See, not a plane in sight although I still have the WWII Japanese Aircraft Carrier to do and my Eurofighter to finish... So much to do, so little time.

What have you got in your up and comings?

He He, I was looking at the mini art MC's a while ago and thought chuf that for a game of silly buggers! I wish you luck and look forwards to seing it. Dont rush it, I can wait until Monday :-).

    Hm, what have I upcomming:

At the moment I'm just finishing the Mk Vb, Thank you for the kind words Graham. I sort of got started on a Elco 80 the other day, so thats probably going to keep me quite for a bit. I also have my HMS Bluebell waiting to get finished. I got all the bits I needed for a BD pressie the other week, so no more excuses on that one. I also got the S-100 from the misses, so looks like its time to build another display case soon. Darn things a meter long!!!

If I fancy a quicky, I have a Mossie Mk XIII/XVII in 1/48 sitting on the shelf.... Think I got things covered for the next few day!! Oh i also Got a 1/72 Sub sitting waiting for me to get going on. Need a few extra goodies for that one though before I get stuck into it.

I do love threads like this Graham , its easier for me to show photos of what I can choose from once the group build and my Ardennes dio is done , as from the photos a desert dio looks good and is well in the planning stages with lots of extras bits I`ve got which are not pictured , even though the matilda is half built also a Quad (not pictured) these will be used for something else , along side the desert dio I plan to build the bike or one of the F1 kits which also have extras like PE , cloth seatbelts ,and tobbaco decals etc

Great post mate , its good to see what everyone got planned.

        Hi Graham,

Yeah. I'll back you up on your comments about airbrushing those small camo patterns. I got faith you can do it though after seeing your latest.

You were indeed much more restrained than me, but as far as I'm concerned, if something is worth doing, it is worth overdoing!

My up and coming builds have to be picked from this lot - pardon my appalling pics. The shakes are one reason I have difficulty with detail stuff.

And it seems every one of these is screaming: 'Me next!' 'No me!' 'No! Me me me!'

Richy... two SAS Jeeps you jammy .... er ... thing. Given that you have a newer Jeep kit as well, I would be tempted to use that for the basic jeep and use bits from the SAS kit to convert it, now that would be something... However, I shouldn't say too much against the old Tamiya kit, it is still a good Jeep and it does get well covered with kit. I was hoping to get a road bike from Hinckley but there were none. I do fancy the grey Kawasaki that Tamiya do. Defiantly on my list.

Dave, what a stash mate. A couple of Ooooohhhs from me when I saw the Maxi Ambulance and the 1:48 Memphis Belle, I was sorely tempted at the show to get that kit. Any idea what it is like?

I also forgot to mention my horse drawn stuff which is still growing, getting some great rhubarb......

Hej Gern, You got more in your stach than my local model shop!

If you need any help my choosing, my vote goes to the 1/48 Mempis Belle or the Welly.

Graham. I got the ambulance off ebay. I reckon the seller would have been disappointed to say the least 'cos I paid less than £5 for it inclusive of postage!

The B 17 looks to be from an old and tired mould. Lots of flash and some of the details look a bit soft. I've only test fit the fuse, wings and tail bits but everything seems to line up OK; and I've not seen anything in the reviews apart from some comments about lack of detail in a few areas. I suspect my limitations will have more of an affect on the build than anything inherent in the kit.

Ian. I've no idea what I'll be doing next. I just gotta make certain I don't start ANYTHING 'til I've finished my GB or it will never get finished! But I suspect it may be the Hunter. They've got a few at Cosford which just served to confirm my opinion that it's simply the most beautiful aeroplane ever made.

I'm doing a desert dio next. It will feature a Kittyhawk 1A, CV*X, serial EV319 of 3Sqn RAAF. It was lost on25/10/42. The second aircraft will be a Fiesler Storch from Wustennotstaffel1. WNr.5618 coded NM+ZQ. It has landed to take a look at the allied aircraft and I intend to put the chap investigating the Kittyhawk and the photographer in the diorama. I might need to be a bit economical with scale/geometry as the whole thing needs to be a reasonable size! All kits ordered and I've got some 00 scale (1/76 I think) boy scouts who will be transformed into Luftwaffe airmen! Allowing a bit of license it should look vaguely, very vaguely, like this.

I hope to get it done before a long break from modelling, caused by work commitments. All depends on the post office.

                  Cheers

                  Steve

                    Hi Stuart,

I've just checked and the panel lines are raised.
