Bigin Hill Air Show.

I remember reading that the Bigin Hill Air Show is pretty soon. Anyone going?

Would love to but as most of you know, Its a bit to far for me!!!

Looks like thers going to be a great turn out.

BBMF are putting in an extra couple of planes and there will be "loads" of Spitfires! So If you are going REMEMBER TO TAKE YOUR CAMERA.

I wont be going this time around but its on my list of shows to attend. However i am hoping to be going to Fairford for the first time this year (next month) just waiting on the hope of getting a couple of free tickets. :-)

Went to the Biggin Hill Airshow today. Good show - 70th BoB anniversary so loads of Spits and Hurries + the Lanc, 2 F16s, Typhoon Euro fighter, Harrier and loads of other great stuff. I only wish I could get closer to the flying exhibits (when they were on the ground obviously). I'll post some pics tomorrow when I've sorted thru them. I'm lucky in that Biggin Hill is only a few miles away from where I live. I frequently see the historic aircraft flying over my house.

Don't know if these came from Biggin Hill or if anyone else can help but this morning I heard what I would have sworn were Merlin engines. Got out to the garden just in time to see two, possibly silver, single engined low wing monoplanes fly over at some distance. It looked as though they had red on the tail and possibly on the wings or nose, they really went out of sight very quickly. I wondered if they could have been Mustangs but as it did sound like a very throaty Merlin, I have since wondered if they could have been radial engines such as Thunderbolts or something.

Hej Paul. Jo Orpington is pretty close if I recall. I used to live in Bexley.Still got to see them quite a bit even from there. Looking forwards to seing the photos. Hope you had a great day.

Its got a Merlin and a red tail could even pass for beeing silvery.

What you may have seen and heard was a Me 109! - weird I know but hear me out. As part of the BoB commemorations Biggin Hill also had the Hispano-Suiza Ha 1-112, this is the Spanish built 109 used in the BoB film. This aircraft is powered by a 2 speed Rolls Royce engine and is light in colour so could be mistaken for silver. It was accompanied by another "luftwaffe" aircraft that I couldn't make out. The other clue is that the Hipano now resides at Duxford (not too far away from you?) All this may be complete nonsense (the facts are real - taken from the programme) but makes an interesting story anyway!!! Here's a pic scanned from the BH programme couldn't get close enough to get a good shot of it in person. Didn't see any Thunderbolts or P51s but there was a B17 G for all USAAF enthusiasts.

I'll post a few Air show pics later - 4 Spitfires and 4 Hurricanes were there!

You and I as detectives seem to have come up with the same answer! Only problem with this theory is that the Hispano didn't have a red rudder or spinner during the Air show (unless it was given a fresh coat of paint there?!) it had a yellow nose and plain rudder. This is a shot of it next to the Lanc...
