You know what they say (the other half normally) us blokes never grow up, we stay as kids throughout our lives.....

If you could choose one other model linked branch of this great hobby of ours you would like to do, what would be your choice?

Imagine money and time were not an isuue...so things like scalextrix, model train layout, rc stuff cars, helicopters, planes, boats etc.

I think mine would have to be rc planes. I live on Dartmoor in glourious Devon and we have some amazing high hills around where i often see the guys flying their gliders....awsome sight. I got chatting to this one guy last year and he let me take the controls while it was around a 1000ft up...blimey it was scarey...the controls are soooooo sensative, the slightest touch and this huge glider was all over the place!!! When he brought it into land it was amazing, he gradually brought it down and flew it into the wind just ever so gently coming to rest ontop of these ferns...was a hell of a sight.

Anyway over to you guys...what would be your choice?

I never want to grow up, its boring? If money was no object and I had the skills, my dream would be to build a model completely from the ground up.

Totally to scale and every part would be hand cast or shaped or machined works like the late Henry Baigent, who built large scale models absolutely built from scatch. Fantastic, till then I will stay with plastic, resin, photo-etch, and other assorted bits and pieces.

I would go down the RC route as well. I've always wanted to have a massive scale Lancaster that i could fly around

RC aircraft for me too with a flyone cam and wireless video goggles so I could be up in the clouds too, no pun intended lol.

For me it would have to be a very large railway layout in the very small 'N'gauge so that I could have loads of track and buildings with the potential for recreating a real landscape like the pre Beeching railways that ran through the Peak District

Railway, in "O" gauge, Bassett & Lowke stuff but with rolling stock made by me from kits rather than the metal ones they have, and the space for a very large layout. OOh and then there's the multi-engined R/C scale aircraft and the R/C submarines and I thnk I'd better have a lie down with my bottle of Scottish friend and turn the lights off for a bit.

Or buy a lottery ticket!

I can say my modling has come full circle. I started as a young lad with horribly built plastic planes, in high school flew RC planes, then later rc Helli, built and fly a full size Super cub, rebuild planes (for a living now) and have re descovered the joy of plastic modling not so long ago. :-)

Two things. One of them is not really modeling.... well sort of. I would like to build my own boat. A full size one that is. My wife and I are both rowers, and the idea of having our own is rather tempting.

On the modeling side I could be happy with a 1/12 scale spitfire with fully working everything. Control surfaces, engine, undercarridge, the whole nine yards.

So nothing to ambitious from me.

It would have to be a 1940's British main line layout in HO/OO. Possibly the Great Central Railway through my home town of Rugby. Sadly now closed apparantly it carried a lot of military freight so two hobbies could be joined.

Would need about 25m length to satisfy the scale needs of fitting it all in!

Wow some truely awsome stuff here...lets hope one of us wins the Euro millions then we could all fullfill or dreams lol. I have me modelling shaed which is loverly and cosy...my recluse hehe. Anyway its only around 6ft x5ft but i hope eventually to build a shelf around 3 of the sides at eye level and run an N Gauge. I love this gauge but its sooooo expensive, having said that second hand you can get some real bargins...i would have it running whilst out there just going to and from, put some nice scenery on it etc...thats for the future.

Henri Baigent.

Hi Martin, I went on www.henribaigent.org/ferrari last night and I reckon you will be astounded as was I reading what Sir Stirling Moss wrote about Henri`s model of a SWB Scaglietti 250, it is virtually the real car in miniature, complete with working g/box, diff,and even the clocks work and are illuminated? could go on all afternoon, but won`t as the dogs want to drag me around the fields!

If money were no barrier i would buy myself a real life war bird and spend time restoring it, then i would learn to fly it i was thinking a 109G10 or an FW190... and i would take great delight playing with my new model.
