    Looking for a Jaguar GR1

Does anyone know of a good kit of a Jaguar GR1 in 1:48? I know that Airfix do/did a decent kit for which Eduard do some Photo Etch. However, I have not found anyone selling it or if they do, it is out of stock.

Reason I want one is that while at Muckleburgh Museum last Sunday, there was a picture of an aircraft nose art with a rather saucy pic and the name "Katrina Jane". My beloved Kate spotted it and, as her name is Katrina Jane, I would love to do the pink Dessert Storm Jaguar with her name on it.

I have already sourced the 1:48 decals for it, I was amazed that they actually did some. All I need now is a 1:48 kit.

Oooo, an Eduard would be nice.... Not sure what the difference is between the GR1 and the GR3 but me being me, I would prefer a GR1 as that is the MK that the original "Katrina Jane" is. If you here any more re the Eduard or see the Airfix, I would appreciate a heads up.

Graham I don`t know if they have one but have you tried Shrewsbury models, they seem to have a large supply of Airfix 1/48 kits.

The Airfix GR.3 is actually a GR1 (with GR3 decals) so, straight from the box, you can't build an accurate GR3

Cannot find a Gr1 or GR3 in 1:48 and I want 1:48. The Eduard one will be a re-box of the Airfix, appears they will be doing the Lightning again (they have re boxed the Airfix Lightning before) as well, that will sell well as it is regarded as one of the best 1:48 kits of the Lightning.

From what I have found out, you are right Allyne, the GR3 is the GR1 with different decals. It would appear that any real differences would be internal avionics so only the cockpit would look different as far as a kit is concerned. Trouble is, I have the decals on their way and I may never get the damed aircraft to stick them on :smoking:

Ian, sorry mate. Yes the Superbox site does have the GR3 which would be OK, trouble is, I cannot read the site lol, Google translate doesn't help me out either. I could be buying anything.....

Graham, have a look at this Heller kit. I have used this firm, a bit slow but O.K. This was the company I got the SU-33 from. I have an article from the Model Aviation World magazine (don't know which issue) detailing the build of the Airfix 1/48 Jaguar GR.3A kit. If this is any use I can PDF it and send it by P.M. if the system allows. Cheers Derek

Hi graham, ive built the airfix 1/48 jaguar and did it with the xtradecal sheet for gulf war colours too. The kit is a rebox of the heller kit and is not bad although a bit lacking in finer details ,ie wheel wells and cockpit but nothing a man of your calibre wont be able to fancy up. I just stuck to detailing the cockpit and seat and used the pilot as i couldnt find any etched belts. As for obtaining one , try looking for the airfix frontline fighters boxing, thats what i got. This contains a jaguar gr3 and a tornado f3 both in 1/48. The tornado is the dog rough airfix kit but if you get both for the same price as the jag on its own then its ok.The main visual difference between the gr3 and the gulf war gr1 is the aerial behind the cockpit and the weapons fit, but the weapons can be used from the kit leaving only the aerial to make yourself. heres a couple of pics of mine, good luck finding one cheers tony

                      Graham,

I gotta own up to being a bit confused! Are you saying you found a specific set of decals in 1/48 for an aeroplane that no-one's made a kit of? Or am I having yet another Homer moment?

It is working out that way Dave lol. No, Airfix made quite a good 1:48 Jaguar GR1 and re boxed it with different decals as a GR3. Heller also made a decent one. However, after finding the decals that Kate saw at the weekend on a picture of nose art with her name on, I ordered the decals. Now I find that no one has the Airfix Jaguars in 1:48 for sale so in a way, yes you are right. Eduard even do photo etch for the Airfix Jaguar and, rumour has it, that they will be releasing an Eduard boxed Airfix GR1 at some time, trouble is, no one knows when that will be. I have emailed Eduard to see if they will give me an idea of the release date if in fact they are going to do it.

A couple of people have found them in Europe but I am reluctant to by from abroad especially as we are looking at between £26 and £28 before P&P which I cannot determine until I buy them. I am not too concerned about the price within reason but I don't want to end up with postage nearly doubling the price. I may live in Peterborough but this is Yorkshire blood running through my wallet.

When I bought the 1/72 SU-33 the shipping cost was 6 Euro and this was airmail, they quote shipping costs by weight on their website.

Got it Tony, many thanks for that. £33 with PP which is a tad pricey but it will be worth it to see Kate's face when she sees 'Her' aircraft. Many thanks again :-) HOOORRRAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYY
