    History of the forum?

It really has made my model making even more fun being on this forum, got some great friends, even hope to meet up with some in the future. Pick up great info, tips, hints and advice etc etc.

However i feel rather ashamed that i know nothing of how it all came into being and how it functions so well. We all just switch our computers on, press a few buttons and hey presto we are here.....perhaps we sometimes take it for granted but it must take a lot to keep it all going so well. I dont even know when the forum came into being???

However it began im just grateful we have it available........long may it last :-)

All i can say i think it functions so well because everyone has a healthy respect for everyone else on here. There is no 'dissin' people about how many rivets they missed off the external tank of a me 262-a-1-c-t--6-h version 6

I have said it befor and i'll say it again. This is the friendliest forum i've been on the net in any of the subject matters i debate about. There are people on here with vastly more knowledge of the modelling subjects i like to do and yet they never talk/type down to you. Always at your level and to me that's the main reason this forum is so good and balanced.

Long may it continue and now that we have a shop to go along with it then it's all the better for it. If by using the shop it puts some money into John's pocket whilst helping to pay for this forum then for one shall keep using it.

I started the forum back in 2004, it was called modeltalk.co.uk but it I think the people that came was looking for the wrong type of models  then I found that scale-models.co.uk, net and .eu were all available so I got them as I felt it was a more suitable domain name, I started it because I had just bought a load of N gauge trains and thought it would be a good way to get some help, like a lot of people on here I hadn't done any modelling since I was a kid and with this hobby you can never stop learning.

As it turns out I never did anything with the trains the only space I had for it was the loft and it was a bit cramped with all the other junk up there, so I sold them all and bought some RC cars, soon found out we only have a few months of good weather when they can be used, so I sold them and moved my attentions to kits which I prefer.

I didn't set out to make this such a friendly forum it's the people that have joined that has made it that and I'm more than happy the way it's turned out, along the way there has been a lot of good people that for what ever reason no longer visit or don't visit that much now, people like Barry (Wonwinglo) that had invested a lot of their time and efforts and put a lot of good content on the pages you read, and has been a member from the very start.

There are a lot of other members past and present that go out of their way to help others, too many to name individually but but everyone here knows who they are.

I hope that gives you a little insight to where the forum was started, I would like to thank everyone that makes this forum worth visiting day after day.

Brilliant posts from John and Allyne, thanks guys. Six years and going from strength to strength is a real testiment to the members of the forum and the way in which it is run. John, its great that at least youve had a go at some of the different aspects of modelling inc trains and the RC cars....im fascinated by nearly all of the different areas but there is something very special about making kits, and it probably helps that we can do it all year around no matter what the weather, unlike some of the other stuff as you say.

Thanks for the insight John and thanks for providing the base for us to all enjoy so very much...all the best Martin :-)

Trouble is, it is that good, I never get any modelling done.

I am a relative newcomer, very much so when you see how long it has been going. I have only been here from Nov 2009 and I can honestly say that I am only where I am now in modelling because of you guys on here. The friendliest forum is often said but I believe it is true in this case.

Martin, I hope you do get chance to meet up with some of the guys at some time. I have only met up with Dave (Gern) but I can honestly say it was like meeting an old friend, not a stranger, so good is the camaraderie on here. The only thing wrong is the geographical distance between us all but the forum is our club room and long may it last.

Hiya Graham, great post as usual mate, and very valid points. I have got a beer in for a certain forum member in September when hopefully we will catch up at the Euromilitiare Show :-)

              John,

I don't know about the other guys, but I'd like an idea about the number of folks involved. I know there are likely to be far more 'lurkers' than active members, which I'd guess is true about 90% of similar forums - regardless of the subject matter. I'm just curious is all.

You said thanks to us. It's my turn to thank you and the other moderators that organise the site so well. And an equally big thanks to all the other contributors for everything they provide in the way of help and encouragement and the endless patience to dig up information and modelling techniques and the humour and .... the list just goes on.

Now I'm getting all sloppy and 'touchy feelie'! That'll never do. I'm off! See ya later.

Like the others I will stop praying to mecca ( no not the bingo ) not that I did? but many many thanks to John and the other members that are involved with the forum. Like Graham I am a very new member and although I have been making models for centuries, I never thought to join a forum because of comments I have seen and read from other sites, mags etc, plus I have never rated my M/Making abilities, but having got comments recently from other friends on the forum, I actually feel part of a broad M/Making society, all have made me feel welcome and hope I can return the compliment. Big thanks from Gareth.

ps ( Allayne, 15 rivets at 15 mm ) Kettle is on or there`s a tinny in the fridge if anyone can find me?

Like dave and graham ive not been a member that long (only since june 09)but in that short time ive come to realise this is the best forum going. It was the first one i ever joined ,in fact the only one!!, but ive found it invaluable in helping develop my modelling and fascinating seeing everyone elses stuff. The friends ive made on here are , like graham said, like age old acquaintances ,i feel as if ive known them years! Graham hit the nail on the head when he said this is our club room, but a great big one, even linking other continents. SO a big thanks to john for all his work in keeping the forum going,(if you like you can donate a few quid to the cause, follow the link on the forum home page) Long may it continue to be the friendliest forum on the net! tony

Now Graham, that would be nice to meet up in Mablethorpe, bag of chips and a good old chinwag on the seafront, i've great memorys of Mablethorpe aways loved the place. I used to deliver papers to RAF Donna Nook when i was a kid.

As for the forum it's just a great place to be with great people and made some good friends, i love coming in here with a cuppa in hand and seeing what's been going off in the land of glue and cut fingers. I've learned things too, i never did weathering or drybrushing before i joined and i'm still learning. So thanks to John for having an idea thats turned into this forum and making it the place it is today. If we didn't have ideas nothing would get done.

                      Have fun, John

John you are one great Guy for setting this all up and you do a tireless job in updating the site and sorting any problems out we all have now and again on it, thats apart from any tips on modelling as well. Now you have a shop as well this is my chance to say a BIG THANK YOU TO YOU. Thanks JOHN.
