    3.99 nostalgic Firefly buy

I was in hobby craft yesterday buying matt varnish when i saw the Revell 1/76 Firefly and jumped around because i built this kit when i was about 5 or 6 with my dad so had to get it. Of course it was a Matchbox kit first. I built and painted the kit in a day, didn't bother with weathering as it just a bit of a desk play thing with me 1/72 tiger. I'll post a photo soon.

Nowt wrong with a nostalgia build and nowt wrong with that Firefly either. Just shows that it does not have to cost a fortune nor take months to build to get a great kit and a lot of fun. Nice one Alex.

Thanks Graham. Do you remember the the Monty's caravan set by matchbox? With the little street seen with the knocked down state and tram lines.

I have Monty's Caravan in my stash..... Didn't the Firefly have a section of bridge??? I seem to remember it had something like that. The box art showed it half way up on a broken hump back bridge exposing it's belly to anyone wanting to take a pot shot lol. Loved the old matchbox range.

Yeah I've built the bridge I'm just finishing it off now. I'll post when it's do. The Revell box art a bit dull. It just driving down a road with it turret turned 90. Yeah the soft under belly for a Panzerfaust shot! Have you the Revell or matchbox monty?

The Revell one, not seen many original Matchbox, apart from the Victor, anywhere. Only seen the Victor at model shows.

The Victor Bomber as in the Vulcan, Victor and Valiant. I don't think it was a great kit but not a really bad one either. Main issue appeared to have ben with the panel lines. It seems that not only were they raised lines but they were doubled up, to parallel lines. One reviewer said this was a bit of a bonus as it made it easy to scribe recessed lines and then sand of the raised ones. I have seen original Matchbox versions at a couple of shows but it has been re boxed by Revell, it was in 1/72 scale.

And mine just turned up today. It does indeed have double raised panel lines in some areas, but also single raised lines, and recessed lines - yes, it's got them all !! The panel lines don't worry me. My biggest problem is the back engineering to B2 specification so it will sit nicely along my anti flash Vulcan.

Will be interested to see more of this Colin. After looking around the web, I have seen some impressive builds of it so it can, and I am sure will, look good.

I have a 1/35 Dragon one, and want to know, why do they all have the wavy-edged white on the mussel half end of the barrel?

                              Hi Norm

Not all fireflies sported this camo but this white, wavy under-part of the barrel was an attempt to make the 17pdr barrel look like a normal 75mm Sherman (from a distance it kind of works to a degree). This was felt necessary as the Germans would target Fireflies knowing that the 17pdr offered much more of a threat to their armour than the 75mm.

                              Hope this helps
