    Places to visit, wee break

Next week i'm taking some time off to go on a wee break with my little boy before he goes back to school on the 18th, we'll be chucking the bare essentials in my nowhere near finished campervan conversion and heading generally southward with no specific destination in mind as yet, (Portmeirion is preying on my mind, went there years ago and found it fascinating, also Tenby but...)

It's all open plan so far, we're just going to head off and stop and eat and kip where and when necessary with maybe a brief stop in Yorkshire to catch up with friends and family we don't see so often.

    Getting to the point.

Does anyone have any recommendations for Must visit shops of the model kit variety and even places like transport museums and such a 5 year old and an adult with the occasional mental outlook of a 10 year old might find interesting.

Well, if you get to Portmeirion then there is a cracking model shop just down the road in Porthmadog. very well stocked and very modeller friendly. It goes by the name of Porthmadog Models and is just off the high street. Great railway there as well.

If you want to stay a little more central, I can highly recommend the tram museum at Crich in Derbyshire. A little further south of that is a preserved railway near a place called Butterley Park.

There's an excellent model shop called Gee Dee in Nottingham, but having left some years ago there may be others as well.

Sheffield and Derby, also near to Crich are also well suplied with modelling opportunities including Modelzone. As mentioned in another thread, there is a Modelzone at Meadowhall Sheffield.

I have just discovered my nearest one is only an hour each way.

      Hmmmmmm....
