    Glue for soft plastics

Hi, what's the best type of glue to use for the softer plastics that are used in 1/72 model soldiers? I tried using normal polystyrene cement, but it just doesn't create a bond.

    Cheers.

    Hi Paul,

I've had some success with Araldite in the past although it's a pain if you only want a small quantity. You have to mix two parts and it's difficult to judge the quantity of each. Too much hardener and it won't stick - too much of the adhesive and it's not strong enough to hold!

I think I've seen similar two-part adhesives in special dispensers but I've not tried them.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks for the response. Hmm, that does indeed sound a bit of a nuisance if it's only a few bits I need to glue together. It's the HaT 1/72 Pak 40 anti-tank gun that I'm making - it seems silly to make that sort of thing out of soft bendy plastic!

Paul, Loctite do an 'ALL PLASTIC' version of super glue. Comes with a 'pen' which cleans both bonding faces and a 3g tube of super glue, it really does work on all plastics, much stronger than the normal super glue. B&Q etc stock it. Cheers Derek

Sounds like superglue is the way forward, then. I get a bit paranoid around that stuff after seeing people glue their fingers together!

            hi paul .

super glue is one of the better things to happen in modeling. as for sticking your fingers together you will probably try it any way just to see what happens . any acetone based nail polish remover will free you up , dont pull too hard to free yourself as you will end up with more skin on one finger than the other.(super glue can fix minor scalpel cuts)

            regards .

ps have a look in quick tips.
