You know, i've been thinking about this all day and everyone has valid points. £700 is a lot of money for a static model and once it's built you won't see inside. M1ks is right, they won't supply the tracks in one go, they need to keep it going after all. £700 for a model that you can't use or £600 for the Tamiya Tiger the will look the same (or better) and you can enjoy.

Thanks lads for opening my eyes, John

The best thing in your case John is that you have two tigers already in this scale, so it hurts none to keep an eye on whats coming with which issue each week and just buy the ones which have a bit or two you could use?

I've been looking over it again and might, just for the fun of it see how many issues there are to build the turret alone and build myself a Tiger turret , if I can do it in the first 8 issues or so i'll have a bash at that as I already have the cannon.

Graham, the cost isn't the main thing putting me off, after all, you're looking at just under £600 (according to google), for a Tamiya R/C kit, so although this is a static display piece, (and that alone would have me opting for one you can terrorise the neighbourhood dogs with), you would have the mags as well, the main obstacle for me, (same with the Bond DB5 too) is the ridiculous wait period, 6 months would be OK but frankly any longer is just ludicrous, I reckon the excitement would wane quickly.

And most important of all, the Tamiya one makes engine noises and booms from the cannon

That's the deal done then, if it makes engine noises and booms, what else i there to say, Tamiya it has to be ;-)

Or how about this one if you're really itching for some armour action, they have Shermans too, you can recreate Kelly's heroes.

                :grinball2:

(never realised the heng longs were so cheap, relatively speaking)

1 Stop Model Shop - Welcome to Howes Models

1/16 scale as per the Tamiya, cannon fires plastic BB's and under £60 complete with TX and all bits, aside from the tank comanders headset being of a dodgy size it doesn't look bad, i'm sure for accurate scale the Tamiyas better but this would see you playing nicely until you'd saved enough.

OK, last link, before I convince myself to to buy one

Love the smoke and shot effect

For once on here I am going to get straight to the point:-

Anyone who gets this, or any other stage build thingys are completely off their tree. They are the biggest and most expensive con that has ever been thought up!

It beggers belief that people even begin to contemplate getting involved in these builds.

Great getting a particular issue for an upgrade bit, but a full build, come on!!

Phew, I feel better for that!

                  Cheers all,

                  Ron

Well, being so far off my tree I don't know which is my tree anymore (they all look the same to me) I went out and bought issue one. For 50p I have a metal 88 mm gun barrel and front mantlet in 1:16 scale and a huge poster of a Tiger to stick on me shed wall. That will do for me lol

Ditto that Graham, and for 50p it's worth a look, the little articles in the mag are worth that alone, likewise I have an 88mm cannon to fit to the underside of a 1:48 BF109 or whatever takes my fancy

I'll be donating the poster to my wee boy, the price was worth the 'WOW!' I got when I showed it to him.

Have to say if I wanted an accurate display piece i'd get a nice 1:35 (or whatever the common large-ish scale for armour is) and for a plaything the HengLongs a winner hands down.

Well show me some finnished part works... Red baron.... Bismark..... All seem to die a death after a time.

Having followed the links that M1ks posted for the tamiya and HengLong. I now know what I want.

To me the Heng long looks like a toy. OK cheaper than the Tamiya, but the money needed to get it looking as good as Tamiyas, you might as well just buy the Tamiya one and get on with it!

Just got back from my Dads and he was on about the Tiger, i was talking to him about what you lot thought about it. Told him how long it would take to build and how much it'll cost, lets put it this way, he's keeping the poster and i have a spare barrel and muzzle brake. On a lighter note, the muzzle brake looks good on the Heng Long Tiger lol.

The major problem with the build a tiger tank part works it has many intricart missing to make this tank the true 1:16 scale as it should, overalll opion a lot more research from hachette would of avoided model builders searching for the parts they do not supply. The web sites are out there but took a long time to find, so you can get the correct parts.

But it is keeping me amused and busy. The turret will soon be finished looking as it should like a late tiger tank in 1943. But if these web sites were not available for the correct upgrade parts then the subscription would have been cancelled a long time ago.
