    Plastic Windows

    Hi

    Another question from me before the weekend finishes.

    I am buiding a pick up truck, that has plastic windows.

    Many years ago when I bought plastic airplanes, the glue got onto the windows and smeared them.

    Before I start putting the windows in, I saw somewhere about 'Johnsons klear'.

    What does this do to the plastic windows?

    and the glue I be using this time is 'Revell Contacta'.

    Is there another glue that will stick the windows, and cause no fogging etc onto it if I make a mistake.

      Garry,Johnsons Klear is an acrylic polish which will give any clear part a nice sparkle,hide minor blemishes and protect them from paints and some solvents. Revell Contacta cement will very probably "fog" your windows,even if you dip them in Klear. I know some people do use plastic glues for their clear parts but it scares the sh*t out of me!

      If you haven't got an acrylic glue for clear parts like Gator's Grip or Kristal Klear you could try good old PVA wood glue.

          On clear plastic, pva or Klear is a good glue.Pva is a tighter bond as it shrinks as it sets and pulls the part in.

              Hi Garry, For my last few jet cockpit canopies I have glued them with Klear. Use a thin brush and touch the seam and you will see it wicking along the seam. Repeat until the whole seam is covered, should take hold after an hour or so, and cures overnight. As Stona says, dip the canopy on Klear before you start, and leave for at least 24 Hrs.                       Look for pledge multi surface wax. Same Sh¤t different bottle. Well very nearly the same stuff.

                              ASDA in Peterborough has not had any of the old Klear since jan/feb time.

                                  Unfortunately,as far as the UK market goes the answer is yes. You may still find some old stock somewhere. Ian is also right,the new formula seems to work in much the same way despite its milky appearance in the bottle.

                                      I would use the PVA to stick the parts in the first place and don't forget that you can water it down and paint it on to make it that bit more versatile.

                                          I use the new stuff and it's fine for what you are trying to do, even though it's milky in appearance it dries clear. Try it and see on an old kit first. You can still find the old stuff our local pound shop has it at the moment.

                                              Does anybody have a brand name for the PVA, there is so much out there, any ideas?

                                                  One of the more common is 'Resin W' wood glue. This is no more than a PVA glue and can be obtained at any hardware supplier.
