Steve Jones, on his YouTube channel, has recently built the ambulance from the film Ice Cold in Alex. The film is black and white so he painted his model in black and white. Very efficient and all issues with correct colour sorted. Simples!!

Yeah, I did that too, and believe me, shading in monochrome / black and white is NOT easy
Also, Steve Jones very carefully researched/reviewed the vehicles on screen, knowing from the start that while most of the time 'Katy' IS a K2, some of the time the running gear is of a different vehicle, entirely.
Therein is the decision with a model 'what am I actually building here? Is it, 'the one in this photo' or 'the one I served in so I ACTUALLY know what was there.' Which may not be what the book says

I remember that. It was the film GB. I did it in 1/35 at the same time…..research told me there were four Katy’s used in the Film, two normal, one cab front cut down for the cab shots, and one of which was a Katy body on a dodge 4 x 4 chassis (I think).

The static close-ups, I believe, and the 'rocks for jacks' sequence are the K2s. The running shots are at least one, possibly two, CMP 4x4s, so it din't get stuck in the sand.
Apparently
So, there's exactly what a bit of research does for you
The other aspect of colour correctness that causes a headache, especially in these internet days, is the colour setting of the camera taking the image, and the colour settings of the viewers monitor - all can vary wildly.
Personally I'm not massively into accuracy, although I might look into some aspects of a build, and have always gone on the basis of 'looks good/close enough'.

This is a fascinating thread to me, because I mainly paint fantasy subjects, so I am completely free to do what I like, unencumbered by any need to do research.
Ah, but are your canon Starwars, Star Trek, 40K colours correct? lol! :smiling: :smiling: :smiling:
I've seen quite a number of arguments on 40K forums regarding the 'right shade of Ultramarine blue' etc. which just goes to show they're as mad as the rest of us.

….but….but ultramarine is a pigment in itself so how can they get it wrong LOL……good job there isn’t a Rose Madder faction really……

Ah, but is the colour named after the pigment, or after the Ultramarines space marine chapter, whose name clearly is a pun on that of the pigment? Because if the colour is named after the space marines whose armour is in the colour named after it, that can be pretty much any shade of blue, not necessarily ultramarine …
(Though I’m guessing Games Workshop went with medium blue for the chapter exactly because of the name pun. Or maybe, for all I know, they came up with the chapter name because somebody painted some early space marine models, that shade of blue.)
