This here is my 1/72 Italeri Spitfire Mk Vb. So far is the one and only model I ever finished since I started modelling, 5 months ago. It was hand painted and the list of mistakes I made building is too big to tell. As soon as I finished it, I managed to knock off every little bit of it, from undercarriage to pitot tube and everything in between. I tossed it to the side in frustration and let it cool for a while. but then I thought, gosh, this is the first model I ever built! So I went on to fix it and put it back together. Even though the paint job is a smeary mess, some colours are not right, and the general look of it is not so hot, I think that in about 20 years from now If I still have this model I'll feel very proud and sentimental about it. After all, the first time nobody forgets... So, how about you guys? Do you still have you first model? Do you love or hate it? What kind of lessons have you learned from it? Do you have pictures to show?

That looks great Marcos. I don't have any of my early attempts but I'm sure none of them were as good as your Spitfire

First that's a great looking Spitfire model!

I think you're wise to keep hold of that model, it will be something to look back in years to come. I've still got a model of a Sherman tank I did some 8 years ago. The decals are a bit silvered, the weathering is a bit basic but it was the beginning of a learning process that (I hope) has seen me progress a bit. Keep hold of that model and make sure you take plenty of photographs of it in case you decide to get rid of it later. I say this because it will never be in as good a condition as it is now and you may feel differently about it a few models down the line. You will kick yourself later though if you don't have anything to look back on as a record of progress!

Here's the Sherman - the figures aren't bad but the tank's a bit toy-like.

First that is a Great spitfire you have, especially as your first attempt.

I returned back to the hobby after 20 odd years about 12 - 18 months ago and have never kept any models i did as a kid, probably glad really as they where probably rough as old boots!

Here is the picture of my first attempt after many years, I now use it to practice on as I came home one day to find it in a few pieces!

Not sure how but a safe bet is that my wife who is visually impaired knocked it when cleaning...teaches me for not telling her it was where I had put it!

Thanks Rich! Yours is also a great looking model right there! Maybe in a few years when I get some experience I will give a shot at making bombers and bigger aircraft. They are indeed really cool. Sorry you don't have it anymore, like Paul said, here is the importance of taking lots of pictures.

My first model was built with my dad and was an old 1/72 Revell Lancaster Dambuster version. It was the old black coloured plastic. I treasured it and it had pride of place in my bedroom as a kid. It was destroyed after a unplanned flight down the stairs closely followed by myself bouncing to the bottom too. Still can remember waiting to tell my dad when he came in from work. I was gutted for weeks after.

My first model back after my sebatical was the Lancaster in my gallery. Lots of mistakes on it but it has got pride of place in the display cabinet in my hobby room.
